It was developed by IBM (System/R project) in 1974-1979. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) published in 1986 the first official standard of the language (later revised in 1989, 1992 and 1999), and since then, the industry has widely adopted SQL as the relational database language. Virtually every database system nowadays is interfaced through SQL. The specific data architecture addressed by SQL is called the relational architecture. In this article, we will use MySQL, a popular open-source implementation of SQL that is deployed by most Web host providers. To be able to do the exercises in this guide, you will need an access to a MySQL server. This guide will show you the SQL syntax, sometimes by asking you to enter statements, and sometimes by letting you see how phpMyAdmin generates SQL statements based on your actions using the interface. Canada: Professional Social Network Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Stack Exchange Co-Founder Jeff Atwood Launches Forums Startup Discourse, With Funding From First Round, Greylock, And SV Angel Jeff Atwood, co-founder of Q&A network Stack Exchange, announced today via blog post that he’s launching a new startup called Discourse, which offers an open source platform for running discussion forums. The full name of the company is actually Civilized Discourse Construction Kit, Inc., and its goal is indeed to improve the quality of online discussion. However, Atwood writes that he’s following a very different strategy from Stack Exchange, which aims for “the absolute minimum amount of discussion necessary to produce great questions and great answers”: Almost every design decision we made was informed by our desire to push discussion down, to inhibit it in every way we could. In other words, while Stack Exchange tries to help users find the best answer to a given question, Discourse tries to support a broader discussion without falling victim to the trolling and spam that afflict many other forums and comment threads.

Setting up the reddit app without root access | WebFaction Blog We manage the servers for you which means that you don’t have to worry about setting them up and most importantly maintaining them. We provide a team of systems administrators who work around the clock to do things like applying security patches, monitoring servers, fixing server issues when they arise, building RPMs with new versions of tools and backing up your data. For this to work smoothly we have to make sure that our servers are set up in a certain way (with some standard linux tools and some of our own tools) and it means that you don’t get root access to the servers. In practice this is rarely an issue because you can usually install anything you need in your HOME directory, even when the tools’ installation guides assume that you do have root access. As an example we’re going to set up the reddit app on our servers. 1. 2. In step 1 we created a custom app called “reddit”. 3. The reddit app requires a Postgresql database. 4. 5. 6. Cassandra is now running. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12.
