The Sketchbook Project is a crowd-sourced library of over 30,000 sketchbooks (and counting) submitted by people of all ages and backgrounds from more than 135 countries. Anyone can add their voice to the collection by signing up to fill a Sketchbook Project book of their own to submit. What if I don’t sketch? We use ‘sketchbook’ as loose term for experimentation in creativity. What is Digitizing? Select digitizing, and your completed book will be professionally photographed and uploaded for you to The Sketchbook Project’s online Digital Library. What are themes? Themes are one way we categorize the books at Brooklyn Art Library and are meant to give you a jumping-off point for how to fill your book. What do you mean by tour? Every year we take to the road with all of the new Sketchbook Project submissions. I just signed up for The Sketchbook Project.

Best Of 2012: Eric Standley’s Stained Glass Cut Paper Eric Standley’s work is made out of hundreds (yes hundreds!) of sheets of paper that are laser cut with dense geometric patterns. Looking like 3D stained glass from far away, these layered images transport you to another time and place with their meditative quality. What’s most fascinating about Standley’s works are the areas where the paper floats over from one side to the other creating deep caverns with up to 3 inches of depth. Le fouillis de Kmye Bonjour tout le monde !Hello everyone! Ce week-end a été bien chargé pour moi, car j'ai suivi un stage d'initiation au papier mâché avec la talentueuse Laetitia Miéral...! This week-end has been fairly busy for me, because I followed an initiation to paper mache sculpture with the talented Laetitia Miéral...! I don't have pictures of the course itself (EDIT : some pictures are on Laetitia's website : here), but here are a few pictures of my little doll of the week-end... ok, it's not perfect, but for a first try I'm pretty happy! By the way, here is the concept sketch I had done and that I happily splashed with paint by being over-enthusiastic (as you can see it changed quite a lot as we worked on the character to make it easier!)...

Stranded How to Forecast Weather | Ever wondered how to forecast the weather without actually using instruments? Check the Clouds: Clouds can tell us a lot about the weather. For example, they can tell us if it’s going to be warmer on a particular night by simply being there. That’s because they prevent heat radiation from escaping. They can also tell you whether there will be rain and whether there will be bad weather in general (when you see clouds moving in opposite directions of each other). Check the Humidity: If you’re one of those people whose hair gets all curly when it gets really humid out, you know exactly what this is about. Check the Animals: Birds only fly in the sky when they expect fair weather ahead. Look at the Rainbow (but only in the west) and look for a Red Sky: If you see one in the west, it means a major storm front is coming. Check the Air: If it smells like a compost heap, expect some rain soon. Check the Moon: Seen any red moons lately? Check the Wind: A Few More Ideas:

Time-lapse: Drive Across America in 5 Minutes New York photographer Brian DeFrees recently set out on a roadtrip around the United States with the goal of creating a time-lapse to chronicle his journey. He traveled 12,225 miles while capturing a photo every 5 seconds with his Canon 60D. Take a moment to watch this video which will carry you across the United States and back in 5 minutes: He mounted the camera just below the rear view mirror along with an intervalometer which controlled the camera’s rate of picture taking. He captured 200,000 individual photographs and combined them into the previous video which has turned into a viral hit on YouTube. In total, he crossed at least 32 states in 55 days: 12,225 mile time-lapse roadtrip around the United States When he was parked for the night or exploring an area on foot he was constantly time-lapsing. For Further Training on Time-lapse Photography: Check out this new COMPLETE guide (146 pages) to shooting, processing and rendering time-lapses using a dslr camera.
