Perseus Digital Library Oxford Digital Library (ODL) Biblioteca Valenciana Digital > Biblioteca Valenciana Digital Commons:The National Archives (United Kingdom) The National Archives is the official archive of the UK government and England and Wales, looking after and making available to the public a collection of historical records dating back over 1,000 years. Thanks to a partnership with Wikimedia UK, the National Archives has been able to digitise and release into the public domain over 350 images from our collection of almost 2,000 original artworks by war artists working for the Ministry of Information during the Second World War. We hope we will eventually be able to release the whole collection. This project aims to make the best possible use of these images across Wikimedia projects and ultimately to link The National Archives' catalogue back to definitive information on Commons. We have done some very basic categorisation of these images but we know very little about some of the artists and many of the works are anonymous. On this page: The Data Subject Area Searching the Bibliography Suggestions and Feedback The Data The Bibliography contains over 50,000 records, including 31,000 articles from over 1,500 journals and over 10,000 books. Many references date from the late 18th and 19th centuries: for example, some 1,400 articles have been extracted from the Journal of the Royal Agricultural Society of England, which began publication in 1840. The Bibliography also contains over 4,000 theses awarded for degrees world-wide since the 1870s, including contemporary surveys which are now of historical interest. There are also over 10,000 books in the Bibliography, most of which are held by the Museum of English Rural Life's Library, plus articles from edited works. The Churchill Era: An Educational Resource An insight into some of the great events that shaped the modern world, beginning with the cataclysmic upheaval of World War I and now going on to the build up to World War II. Although the following materials should have something for anyone with an interest in the history of the last century, it has been chiefly designed with exercises for use by schools in England and Wales, and relates to the GCE history curriculum for A' and AS level. If you would like to explore our collections further, many of our catalogues are available online, while we also have a useful guide on using original sources. All materials may be freely copied for use in schools.
