3D Barcodes (Direct Part Marking or DPM) A brief explanation of 3D barcodes - what they are and how they are used. In recent years manufacturing companies have been trying to implement a barcoding system similar to the barcodes for purchases and the retail industry. The only problem is that in manufacturing there are high temperatures, extremely solvents being used, as well as a wealth of chemicals and processes that inhibit the use of a label with bars on it. The manufacturers need to identify individual parts and not just the entire batch as it has been done for years. They wished to improve their inventory and tracking system - and have done so through the use of 3D barcodes. 3D barcodes use the same basic principle as linear and 2D barcodes.

3D barcodes to identify stolen valuables - tech - 30 July 2005 By Mick Hamer DIAMONDS and valuable works of art could be protected against theft using a microscopic barcode that stores encrypted information about the provenance of the items, making ownership easy to prove if they are stolen. The barcode, which takes the form of a cube 30 micrometres across, is being developed by a team at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) at Teddington, near London. The cube is made of silicon coated with a 100-nanometre-thick layer of polymethyl methacrylate, a transparent plastic.

QR Code QR code for the URL of the English Wikipedia Mobile main page, " QR code (abbreviated from Quick Response Code) is the trademark for a type of matrix barcode (or two-dimensional barcode) first designed for the automotive industry in Japan. A barcode is a machine-readable optical label that contains information about the item to which it is attached. A QR code uses four standardized encoding modes (numeric, alphanumeric, byte / binary, and kanji) to efficiently store data; extensions may also be used.[1] The QR Code system became popular outside the automotive industry due to its fast readability and greater storage capacity compared to standard UPC barcodes. How To Embed A Custom Logo Design In A QR Code Though apparently they’ve been big in Japan for quite a while, I first learned about QR Codes only last summer after seeing them used in the campaign for the Sci Fi film District 9. Seeing this got me to wondering – Can you customize QR Codes with your own design features, logo or brand identity? Well, it turns out you can.
