Ruud van Empel Portfolio | Sarah Small ARTIST STATEMENT: The Delirium Constructions (as a titled photographic series) was born in 2003, though its thematic content has figured in Small’s work since she began photographing at thirteen. Up-close examinations of emotional authenticity resonate throughout Small’s images as a teenager, in her life-long diaristic Polaroid-of-the-Day project, and through her past and current endeavors in fine art, fashion, advertising, and editorial photography. Throughout two decades, Small has developed a unique process for directing photography, involving high-energy interaction and the encouragement of unmediated playfulness and emotional reveal. Through this process, Small has amassed a body of photographs that feature amplifications of distilled affect, ranging from elation to rage to sorrow, to lust, fear, joy, anxiety, confusion, and peace. Le poids des masques - revue art contemporain - revue art contemporain L’exposition des photographies de Diane Arbus au Jeu de Paume propose une vision complète et ouverte de son œuvre. Au-delà des icônes qui ont fait son succès public, l’exposition permet de traverser librement une œuvre vibrante et obsessionnelle. L’individu qui habitait les images de Lisette Model était étrange, mais le monde faisait encore écho à son étrangeté. Chez Diane Arbus, son élève, le rapport entre le monde et celui qui l’habite est discordant, il est la source d’un conflit irréductible. Il faut saluer la qualité de l’exposition Diane Arbus, étape française d’une longue suite d’expositions et qui pose avec finesse l’entrée de la photographe Américaine dans le gotha de l’art du XXe siècle. Le mérite est d’autant plus grand que cette fortune publique et critique intervient après une flambée des prix de ses tirages qui se vendent aujourd’hui à des prix débordant le seul marché de la photographie pour tutoyer les premiers cercles du marché de l’art.
