DuckDuckGo العرب اليوم Considering Open Source Software Online treasures Considering Open Source Software by Janet L. Balas This month's theme of Making the Most of What You Have often leads to following the "do-it-yourself" approach. The phrase "do-it-yourself" brings a number of pictures and images to mind. I see a young child insisting loudly, "I can do it myself." I also think of library patrons looking for do-it-yourself books and video materials on many subjects including landscaping, home remodeling, and automobile repair. For librarians working with automated systems, it can be scary to embark on a do-it-yourself project. At the Monroeville Library, we selected an established vendor for our new automation system, but we did not follow the usual conventions in setting up our network. Choosing Macintosh over Windows was a much smaller risk than those taken by other librarians who wholeheartedly have been "do-it-yourselfers," implementing open source automation projects in their libraries. It is © 2000 by Jonathan H. Davidson. Abstract: This paper discusses the use of the University of Alberta law library by members of the general public. It was found that, despite the dramatic rise in the number of lawsuits brought by individuals acting on their own behalf, the number of people using the University law library to undertake research has actually declined. Introduction There is no “public” law library in Edmonton. The Edmonton Public Library collects only the most basic legal materials (i.e. Another significant barrier is the public librarian's lack of subject knowledge. While the Law Society Library (physically located in the Law Courts building) is nominally open to the general public, its primary mandate is to serve lawyers and judges and it can be a quite intimidating place to the layperson. جريدة الغد - الصفحة الرئيسية Published Legal Sources for Genealogists While most experienced genealogists are familiar with the value of original court records, few are aware of the value of published case reports. Court records contain much valuable genealogical information but they are often not readily accessible, they are usually unindexed, the case files may be incomplete, or, worst of all, they may not have been preserved for a particular county or jurisdiction. Published law reports can help fill this void. Like most records used by genealogists, they were originally created for other purposes but can be made to yield their genealogical information to the dedicated researcher. The main benefits of using published records is that they are completely indexed and readily available. The principle drawback is that the presentation of facts is often very brief as it takes second place to the presentation of legal principles. The main source of interest to researchers will be the Nova Scotia Reports (abbreviated N.S.R.). Annapolis County: 1. 2a. 2b. 2c. 1.

Nearly one million children under age 5 in South Sudan will require treatment for acute malnutrition in 2014, and without immediate intervention, it is estimated that 50,000 children could die from malnutrition by the end of the year. Further, one in every three people in the country faces dangerous levels of food insecurity, with many not knowing when and how they will secure their next meal. UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake, together with Executive Director of the World Food Programme Ertharin Cousin, visited South Sudan to draw attention to the dire situation.
