Big Red Kitchen: Tutorial: How to Make Chocolate Covered Strawberry Mallow Candies More Food Crafts:Little Peach CakesRainbow Cupcakes with Rainbow FrostingCandy Cake Have you ever had a Mallo Cup? It looks like a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup but instead is filled with marshmallow cream coated in chocolate and coconut. Everytime Himself and I eat a our favorite lunch counter we like to follow our meal with candy from the old-fashioned candy counter and my first pick is always the Mallo Cups. Last week when I was at the grocery store, I spotted Kraft’s Strawberry Flavored Marshmallows and thought it would be fun to chocolate dip them for the kids. But no, I couldn’t leave that plan well enough alone, I had to make them actually look like chocolate covered strawberries, thus a huge kitchen experiment and mess ensued resulting in Chocolate Covered Strawberry Mallow Candies just in time for Spring-time Easter Baskets. Have everything you need “mise en place” so that once you start, the process will flow smoothly. Start by cutting a marshmallow in half.

Drink for Free - How to Get Free Drinks We're not talking about the free drinks you RSVP for, or find on Facebook or on a happy-hour chalkboard. Not "drink specials" (more on that another week). These aren't drinks you seek out at all. They're surprises, modest rewards for you being you. They're drinks that are granted to us by generous people: friends, family, coworkers, bartenders. People who know us. The first thing is, the free drink shouldn't be turned down. Often, the drink should be honored with a small toast. Speaking of generosity: There is no drink more special than the one given to you by a bartender at the end of the night. Paul Gustings, a bartender at Tujague's, one of our favorite bars in New Orleans, recently told us: "'May I?' So, if you want to be rewarded by a bartender, just be better than that guy over there. • Order confidently and simply. You do all that in a bar, you'll be rewarded.

Butterbeer recipe | Chica and Jo UPDATE: I’ve tweaked this recipe based on more research done at Universal. Be sure to take a look at our updated Butterbeer recipe to see the new ingredient! I’ve been a huge Harry Potter fan since the second book came out and my husband brought it home on the recommendation of a co-worker. I stayed up until the wee hours in the morning with my eyes bugged out so I could finish reading the first and second books. Yes, this was before our kids were in the picture. So we were very excited when we had the opportunity this summer to visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios. As fun as it was that day, it was also hot. On that hot afternoon, I preferred the frozen version (a slushie consistency) but I liked the regular drink a little bit better overall. The mugs were really cute as well. But how would I make the mug? I picked out some really pretty glass mugs that I wanted to use, making sure that were big enough for my stencil, which measures about 4″ x 2-3/4″. Huh? !
Peanut Butter Pretzel Bites Sometime in February, while cruising around the web, I found a simple little recipe for a peanut butter pretzel sandwich dipped in chocolate. I made them for my sweetheart and my friends for Valentine's day, as they all adore the salty/sweet contrast as well as the peanut butter/chocolate combination. I enjoyed the treats too, but felt they were a little too rich and chocolaty (wait, is that possible?). Since then, I've played around with the technique of making these little candies and the ratio of filling to pretzel to chocolate. 1 cup of peanut butter (creamy works best)2 Tbsp softened butter or margarine1/2 cup powdered sugar (you may need more)3/4 cup brown sugar (you may need more)Pretzels1 bag good quality semi-sweet chocolate chips (I used Ghirardelli 60%) Combine peanut butter and softened butter in a large bowl with a fork or whisk. Use a teaspoon measure, or a small cereal spoon to scoop the filling. Makes about 45 sandwiches.

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Martini Reese’s Peanut Butter cups happen to be quite a commodity in our household. And, for some very strange reason their value seems to increase exponentially during Halloween. Thanks to my careful and thoughtful planning I invested in a small Reese’s Peanut Butter hedge fund anticipating their upcoming increase. Which has allowed me to prepare such a delightful cocktail during the height of trick-or-treating season. Wether or not Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are a high commodity in your household, past trends have shown that after a week or two post Halloween they seem to come back down to what I would consider “normal” value.
