Using Coloured Filters in Black and White Photography Black and white filters let you control how colours are converted to shades of grey. Use them to get the right contrast and mood in your photos. A common problem in black and white photography is that certain colours look very similar when converted into greyscale. For example, some shades of red, green, and blue look completely different in colour, but almost identical in black and white. This can cause objects in a black and white image to blend into one another, leaving you with a photo which is flat and lifeless, and lacking in contrast and definition. Coloured lens filters offer a solution to this problem because they affect the way colours are "converted" to black and white. Black and White Filter Basics There are 5 filter colours that are commonly used in black and white photography - red, orange, yellow, green, and blue. The result is that colours matching the filter colour appear brighter in the final image, while other colours appear darker. Using Black and White Filters

Making the Princess Fort The princess fort is a central hub of activity in our house. Every night, the three of us crawl in to cuddle (we don't have much of a choice in there) and read bedtime stories before Sadie goes to bed. It's a prime "hide-and-seek" location, and Sadie has even spent the night under there on her pillow mattress. The basic ingredients are: - Kura Bed - Curtain - Curtain Rod (we used a shower curtain tension rod) - Comfyness (pillow mattress, pillows, blankets, etc.) - Bookshelves (or toys) - String lights Pennants (just added) = fabric from Joanne. (Use the slats - the ceiling of the princess fort is valuable real estate!) The little lacy ruffly things that you see in the pillow fort is the bottom of the canopy! So there you have it...I think the underneath of the Kura bed has awesome potential.
How to Make Proper Barbecue Chicken There's a lot of misconception when it comes to "barbecue." The problem is the word itself. It's used as a synonym for grilling, refers to the grill itself, or to the meat being grilled; it also has a sauce named after it; and sometimes it's just the word for the party itself held outdoors in somebody's backyard. What, actually, is "barbecue"? American purists see things a little differently. Which brings us to barbecue chicken, a staple of the summer grill. The sad fact is that often times the answer is no. The problem, and the result, is charred all over the place, a crapshoot for succulence, often dry and sad. I believe good barbecue chicken is low and slow followed by fast and hot; that's the easiest way to achieve fantastic results. This way is a vast improvement over most methods, and won't take all afternoon. the dry rub keeping half the grill hot and half of it cooler, i.e. For the rub, I turned to a famous thing "magic dust" invented by barbecue god Mike Mills. (makes 2 cups)
Senate committee votes to end warrantless e-mail searches (Updated) Update (April 25): The Leahy-Lee bill was approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday. The original story on this initiative appears below. If the police want to read copies of a snail-mail letter you've received, they generally need to get a warrant. But the situation is different for e-mail. Under the terms of the 1986 Electronic Communications Privacy Act, e-mail older than six months is considered abandoned. When Congress established this rule, modern cloud e-mail services were still far in the future. The need for reform has been obvious for years, but recent events have created a greater sense of urgency. Ars talked to Chris Calabrese, an attorney at the American Civil Liberties Union, about the privacy proposals Congress is considering. The legislation under consideration in the Senate was proposed by Patrick Leahy (D-VT), the chairman of the Judiciary Committee, and Mike Lee (R-UT), a senator with strong ties to the Tea Party.

Initially it starts generating words from a small subset of the most frequent letters of the alphabet. When you are typing these words, keybr measures time to type a key for every letter in that subset. Once you familiarize yourself with the current subset of letters, the algorithm expands it, including more and more letters to it.
