Bearing in mind that we should take a day at least 3 liters of fluid to us, a single human requires whole 730 1.5 liter bottles of water per year. The plastic bottles end up in the waste container and get melted under an enormous environmental impact, only to get very poor quality plastic. But with a little imagination you could tinker around 3,650 bracelets (5 pieces per bottle!) from this garbage. 2011.09.01. - 2011.10.01. I Spy DIY Getting Hooked (or, How to Make a Clasp) « Studiodax's Blog Being able to make your own jewelry findings means that you can always create what you need, in the size you need. I love finishing off a handmade piece with a well made clasp, and one of my favorites is the basic wire hook. Step 1: flatten one end I start with a 2.5 inch length of wire, in a pretty heavy weight. I’m using 16g here, but you can change up the gauge and the length to customize your clasp. Step 2: create a small loop Next, you need to create a small loop (as small as possible) at the flattened end, using the very tip of my round nose pliers. Step 3: make a large loop On the other end of the wire, make a larger loop, using the base of your round nose pliers. The wire is now ready to be shaped The loops are round, facing the same direction. Step 4: holding the wire Hold the wire across the top of the pen, with both of the loops facing up. Step 5: bending the wire Start bending the wire over the mandrel on both sides – the end with the small loop will be longer. Like this:

Coat the front, back and edges of the pendant. saucy's sprinkles (bloggedy blog blog): guest blogger: the sprout! Hey, everyone... it's me, just visiting from my Mommy Sassy's blog. They call me "The Sprout" but Aunt Saucy calls me a.dor.ab.le. Loopy calls me "the cutest baby ever ever ever" and The Fan calls me her honey! I'm all that and more. Mommy and I visited with Saucy and Loopy and we taught them how to make polymer clay cupcakes. Now, to prove that I am indeed the smartest baby alive, I will show all of you how to make cupcakes out of polymer clay (isn't that a huge word for an 11-month old?... Well Mommy and Aunt Saucy didn't let me use the knife at all! Okay, they didn't let me do this either because I would surely have popped them into my mouth, so instead Mommy let me sit and eat strawberries, cheerios and barley soup for this part. Again, no knife! For this part I demonstrated my mad banging skills and then I crawled under the table to play with Saucy's legs and her new blue pedicure. Here's Loopy with the fancy cinnamon buns she made today. Hey, there's Duke! Lurrve, The Sprout

6/1/10 - 7/1/10 This week's artist is Kelly Morgan. Kelly's work is very diverse and she has just recently begun making her own resin beads which is the new craze sweeping across the bead lovers world. I happen to think that resin beads have a nice look when combined with ceramic due to the unique look of both. Well, enough of my opinion because this isn't about me....or is it? Kelly confessed, "When I am not making beads and jewelry, I am working as a Victoria’s Secret supermodel/international secret agent/rock star. Gotcha wondering, huh? Your Etsy Shop has an interesting name...What inspiration is behind that? I’ve always kept birds and had as many as three parrots at one time. How long have you been creating jewelry and how did you first get interested in this form of art? I’ve dabbled in a lot of various arts and crafts over the years including painting ceramics, cross stitch, embroidery, needlepoint, fabric painting and rubber stamping. There are a few elements that always attract my eye.

How to make your own air dried porcelain with common household ingredients Anything that is quick, affordable and makes beautiful things is a craft winner for me . But…I often find myself uninspired for something new and different. I’ve found it in air dried porcelain (aka Porcelana Fria). What will someone make with 3 cups of white glue (PVA) 3 cups of cornstarch (Corn flour) one tablespoon of white vinegar one tablespoon of glycerin (health food or hobby shop), and 2 tablespoons of canola oil? The beautiful mouse and necklace pictured (compliments of Espirit ) is the answer! Amazingly simple and a GREAT school holiday project, get the kids into the kitchen to cook up some home made, air dried, porcelain. Let’s make it: In a mixing bowl (or non-stick pan) mix 3 cups of white glue and 3 cups of cornstarch. For microwave heating : Cook in a microwave-compatible recipient for 2 to 3 minutes on high (for a 800W oven; longer for a less powerful oven). Stove top : Cook in a saucepan over low heat for about 15 minutes. This one’s a big thumbs up from me.
