lovely ui The End Of User-Friendly Design | Co.Design | business + design There’s a new sub-genre of ghost stories out there today—one where the antagonist isn't quite human. You can find these tales on user forums for many voice assistants: One user reports he and his wife heard Alexa’s voice coming from their kitchen in the middle of the night. Another reported hearing a strange man’s voice through his Echo. "What the hell?" wrote one user on Reddit who was "freaked" after Echo behaved unusually. These stories—usually just aberrations explained by user error—externalize the unease we feel with our new roommates. More and more Americans interact with some form of AI on a daily basis, whether through a voice assistant from Apple, Google, Amazon, or Microsoft, or through their apps, devices, and cars. These are the skeuomorphs of this new field—think of them as affordances for AI. In many cases, these affordances do nothing more than enhance the user experience, benefiting users. There’s a lot of good evidence for this approach to interaction design.
Inspired UI - mobile patterns Who Can Use It's a tool that brings attention and understanding to how color contrast can affect different people with visual impairments. The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) covers a wide range of recommendations for making Web content more accessible. Just a tiny part of making the web more accessible is accommodating for those with a form of blindness or low vision. The standard grading system is a great start, but I thought I'd try to humanize the people who are affected by the different grades. Where did you get the info from? The percentages are sourced from both colour-blindness.com and Vision Australia. Your maths is off, it doesn't add up to 100%...? Good eyes! I'm fascinated by how this works, can you tell me more? Of course! For cataracts, glaucoma, low vision, and the situational events I've personally created simulations to help identify their rating. What does a failing grade mean? The grading uses a combination of color contrast, text size and text weight. Can I help contribute?
The Ultimate Wine-Pairing Infographic I’ve never understood brussel sprouts. Oh, they’re delicious, roasted in a cast iron pan with big hunks of garlic. But I’ve tried reds, and I’ve tried whites. Neither seems to pair all that well. Other than this one misstep, Pairing Wine & Food is like a tube map for your gullet. Of course, even if you memorize all of the wine wisdom in this chart, you still may not agree in practice. A print is available for $20.
