Apps for multiple intelligences

Apps for multiple intelligences
What makes the iPad brilliant is that it caters to all different intelligences. In fact most apps touch upon all different types of intelligences. I’ve tried to match all of my favorite educational apps with their corresponding intelligences. For those apps that matched with more than one, I’ve used equivalents. For example, Showme and Educreations are interactive whiteboard apps that have got the same functions and both fit in the Visual and Aural box. Students can use whichever app they chose to study. Take the brilliant app “The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. The debate whether Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences really excist or not has been contested quite a few times. Children do differ in their abilities with different modalities, but teaching the child in his best modality doesn‘t affect his educational achievement. Five Tips for Securing Student Data in the Cloud There are a few absolutes when it comes to school. First, lunches will always be terrible. Second, your locker will be too small to fit your oversized textbooks. Finally, there's a high likelihood that some of your student data will be stored in the cloud . This student data includes demographic information, test results, transcripts, email exchanges, grades, attendance history, contact information and more. Keeping sensitive data firewalled in your on-premises data center doesn't eliminate the threat of exposure. Here are a few tips to help you secure student data in the cloud or your on-premises datacenter: - If you're storing data in the cloud, make sure you have a copy of the data stored locally or in another cloud. - While not an absolute failsafe, requiring an extra step in the authentication process is a good way to keep password theft from resulting in a full scale attack. Creative apps for digital storytelling Welcome to Creative apps for digital storytelling, Part 11 of “There’s A Special App For That” series on iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad apps for students with special needs. Have a look at our others in the series: Digital storytelling – why we need to focus on creative apps In August 2010, iEAR (Education Apps review) published an article entitled, “What Do Teachers Really Want in An App?” Teachers want apps in which they can input their own “curriculum” in some fashion. The majority of apps are locked down with regard to content and they cannot be manipulated enough to meet the teacher’s specific needs.Educational apps in general are too focused on “drill and practice” and there needs to be a greater emphasis upon “constructivist” types of activities. There has been a lot of development since that time and we are seeing an increase in “constructivist” apps. What is digital storytelling? edutopia In school, we learn about geniuses and their ideas, but how did they get those ideas? What are the mental processes, attitudes, work habits, behaviors, and beliefs that enable creative geniuses to view the same things as the rest of us, yet see something different? The following are seven principles that I've learned during my lifetime of work in the field of creative thinking -- things that I wish I'd been taught as a student. 1. Artists are not special, but each of us is a special kind of artist who enters the world as a creative and spontaneous thinker. 2. You must show passion and the determination to immerse yourself in the process of developing new and different ideas. 3. When producing ideas, you replenish neurotransmitters linked to genes that are being turned on and off in response to challenges. 4. Your brain is a dynamic system that evolves patterns of activity, rather than simply processing them like a computer. 5. Aristotle believed that things were either "A" or "not A."

iPad As.... iPads have exploded throughout schools and classrooms. Their flexibility, versatility, and mobility make them a phenomenal learning tool. As teachers seek ways to integrate these devices, we recommend focusing on specific learning goals that promote critical-thinking, creativity, collaboration, and the creation of student-centric learning environments. In other words, begin with..... Futurist's Cheat Sheet: Human Augmentation As long as there have been humans, there have been dreams of super humans. Eyeglasses started sharpening vision in the 1200s, pacemakers have been implanted to extend lifespans since the late 1950s, and the first strength-amplifying robotic exoskeletons shipped earlier this year. But those innovations are only the beginning. With advances in technology, the ability to vastly enhance human capabilities is right around the corner. Here is an overview of current efforts and their potential. What Is It? Human augmentation is the ability to supplement human brains and bodies with technological improvements. But it's already well underway. How It Works There are many paths to human-machine augmentation: wearable technology such as Google Glasses, sensor implants, using DNA and chemical processes to enhance brain function and muscle functions, nanorobotics, performance enhancing surgery. Potential Impact The idea is to enhance the human notion of “normal.” The Challenge When Will It Be Ready?

Digital Art using the Art Set App For as long I've been teaching ICT, all of my painting lessons have involved children moving digital brushes around on a computer screen using the mouse. With younger children, I'm fond of the 2Paint Projects before I then introduce 2Paint a Picture as they get older. Today however, I tried something new - creating digital artwork using the touch screen on iPads - and it was very successful. There are wide variety of apps available that let you paint on an iPad but my app of choice today was Art Set because I felt that it offered the best balance between variety of tools and value for money. I began by asking the children to visit the Olympics website and to find a photograph of a sport that they are particularly interested in. I also showed them a few more 'advanced' tricks, including how to: Once they had created their picture, I then asked them to share their picture with me by sending it as an email attachment: Click here for more examples.
