ExampleMary is employed by a charity, at a summer camp, where she is responsible for the care of a group of twelve year olds and archery instruction for other campers. She lives on-site, is available 24 hours per day and is not charged for food or rent.Mary meets the definition of a live-in camp leader as those in her care are under 19 years of age, she is available 24 hours per day, is not charged room and board and she is employed by a charity. A “live-in camp leader” is entitled to be paid a daily rate for work performed on any day, or portion of a day. s.16(2) of the Employment Standards Regulation establishes the minimum daily wage for a live-in camp leader. Under s.34(y) of the Regulation, a “live-in camp leader” is excluded from Part 4 of the Act.
