Big Picture Notes I will be out of the office and away from all things digital next week, for a much-needed break. The next full entry will be on Monday, December 14th - but don't forget the 2009 Hubble Advent Calendar, which will keep updating once a day until the 25th (hurray for automation). I'm off on vacation next week - trying to catch the tail end of the summer, and enjoy some time on Boston's Harbor Islands with my family. One year ago, I set out on this long crazy journey, not knowing where it would go, but certainly having high hopes. things have gone amazingly - if hectic, but it's been a very rich experience that I will continue with as long as I can. If there's anything you'd like to see different in The Big Picture, or more of (or less of), feel free to let me know. So, I whipped out my cellphone and took a picture of it. I spent a while trying to recreate the look but came up with something a little different. Step 1 Before I start pretty much any Photoshop project, I drop a couple of guides on the canvas. Create a new layer and name it something like ‘Circle’.With the ellipse tool [U], draw a circle. Make sure you have the ‘Circle Top Shine’ layer selected and grab the gradient tool [G]. Step 5 Create a new layer underneath the ‘Circle’ Layer and call it ‘Background Circle’. Step 6 Step 7

The layer blend modes are located in the drop-down menu at the top left of the Layers palette. Blending modes are split into 6 different sections. To help you learn and understand how the blend modes work, I have provided a summary of all the blend modes currently found in Photoshop CS3 Extended. and ‘ Bottom Layer ’.
