Text Editors The thing you have to realize about Emacs is that… Emacs is powerful. People have called it the thermonuclear text editor , and for a reason. Emacs can edit text, of course, but that is really only the most mundane of its features. Similar to Vim, Emacs is old software. The upside of being old is that Emacs is very mature software. The real power of Emacs is in that it is really not so much a text editor but a virtual machine for a programming language called eLisp. But Emacs is not limited to programming at all. The only real downside to this is that Emacs is, well, old. I have been using Emacs for several months now and I am really enjoying it. At any rate, I would recommend anyone to give Emacs a shot at least for a short while.

Astronomy Cast | Take a facts-based journey through the universe.

ShareBrain = (Markdown + GTD) * Share Share notes with project members Share your notes project by project with your clients and the team members in ShareBrain. Add comments to the note and use like a chat. Unite files, images and tasks into a single note ShareBrain makes it possible to embed files, images and tasks in a note in clear context. If you embed tasks in minutes of meetings, those in charge of the task can grasp its context, so they can achieve well-focused outputs. Share the progress of projects with team members When information is open, everyone comes to help you. Civilizations Calculator This calculator determines the numbers of suitable stars, planets, life-bearing planets, and civilizations which might arise in a galaxy. The algorithm includes numerous factors that can influence the number of advanced, species-wide civilizations which might arise in a galaxy during the era when life and civilization can arise. Click here for general information and on the topics for more specific information. In the first part of the form, enter your favorite dimensions of the habitable zone in the galaxy. Then enter the values for calculating the number of civilizations. Results are presented in a printable format showing the most significant digits. This calculator was created by Jerome L. © 2006 Jerome L. The algorithm includes two simple assumptions: a star can give rise to only one life-bearing planet, a life-bearing planet can give rise to only one technological civilization. There are no rigid interpretations for the computational factors. Galactic Habitable Zone Stars & Planets

Tiki-Toki cpbotha/nvpy Worldbuilding Worldbuilding or conworlding is the process of constructing an imaginary world, sometimes associated with a whole fictional universe.[1] The resulting world may be called a constructed world. The term "worldbuilding" was popularized at science fiction writers' workshops in the 1970s.[citation needed] Developing an imaginary setting with coherent qualities such as a history, geography, and ecology is a key task for many science fiction or fantasy writers.[2] Worldbuilding often involves the creation of maps, a backstory, and people for the world. Constructed worlds can enrich the backstory and history of fictional works, and it is not uncommon for authors to revise their constructed worlds while completing its associated work. Methods[edit] Worldbuilding can be designed from the top down or the bottom up, or by a combination of these approaches. With the bottom-up approach, the designer focuses on a small part of the world needed for his or her purposes. Elements[edit] Physics[edit]

Template for Creating and Building a New Fantasy Race for your Fictional World In fantasy world building and writing, the term "race" is loosely used to describe a sentient or sapient life form with a similar degree of intelligence and awareness as that of a human. Generally a new race will have shared traits and will be aware of its self and its environment. The way your race interacts with its environment will influence the local ecosystems and they will use the world's resources to better their standard of living and interact together in a social capacity. Creating an entirely new fantasy race can be a daunting task for a fantasy world builder or writer. Having a good design template to begin drafting the various characteristics of your race is important for shaping a well rounded creation. Even if your race is not completely unique to your world, you can use this template to record the characteristics for all your races on your fantasy world. Race Name(s)At the top of your race design template you should include the name of your race.
