Hi Again Its been a little over two weeks since the last newsletter. OK, today I have part 3 in the series on integrating a review plugin into WordPress. Also today, have you ever been stuck for ideas on content for your sites? Let’s get on. 1. I have never had a problem finding new ideas for writing content for my sites. However, one of my favourite methods is to ask Google to tell me the best topics to write about. Here is the video showing this system: 2. In the last couple of newsletters we started looking at how you can create a professional ratings and review website, using WordPress 3.0 (and the free template that comes with WordPress 3.0) and a copy of My Review Plugin Today I want to look at adding my first review to my Irritable Bowel Syndrome site, and configuring the plugin so that it shows the ratings and review boxes on my review pages. Here is the video:
Social Media Marketing, Twitter, Facebook, Business, Brand, Data Analysis Consumers are more active on social media than ever before, and not surprisingly, many marketers are struggling to keep up. It seems that, with an ever-evolving sea of data and technology, marketers don’t know where to start. Marketers are told what they need to do, but no one’s telling them WHY these tactics are important or HOW to execute a campaign around them. The WHY is just as important as the WHAT and WHERE. In order to dominate, we have to remember the basics of social media marketing and management. 1. Most successful marketing campaigns running today have one thing in common: they include consumer touch- points that cross multiple channels. Build a social brand presence on Facebook by publishing Pages that facilitate consumer interaction and then ask for that interaction. 2. Data collected via social media, combined with CRM and behavioral marketing data, has proven to increase overall campaign effectiveness. If you want consumer data, you have got to ask for it. 3. 4.
Better Writing – How to Improve Your Style To me the greatest pleasure of writing is not what it’s about, but the music the words make. -Truman Capote I want to share my process for improving my writing and refining a style. Improving your writing can be tough. I’ve read a lot about writing. But most of this focuses on the basics of grammar, spelling or active vs passive voice. The Basics – Write Lots, Write For an Audience, Buy a Reference Book If you are going to improve your writing style, start with the basics. Write every day. The Not-So-Basics – Developing a Style What if you are doing the basics, but it still isn’t enough? You have to develop a style. Your style needs to be unique and it needs to be effective. Model Other Writers Other writers are my source for ideas. Pay attention not only to what they write, but what there strengths are. Experiment Heavily Writing quickly becomes a habit. Changing your style won’t immediately change your results. Feedback is Gold Constructive criticism is worth its weight in gold.
IMAutomator Nutella Exemplifies How Not to Use Social Media Facing an online revolt, Ferrero, the company that makes Nutella, rescinded a cease-and-desist letter it had sent to the organizer of World Nutella Day, an online event to celebrate the delicious chocolate-hazelnut spread. “I’m relieved to say there’s been a positive resolution to the situation. Ferrero employees reached out to me directly after I had posted my fan letter online and sent my formal reply to their C&D [cease-and-desist letter]. But even in its Facebook post apologizing for the fiasco, Ferrero still showed a lack of social grace. “The case arose from a routine brand defense procedure that was activated as a result of some misuse of the Nutella brand on the fan page,” the post said. The case is what Brian Solis, author of What’s the Future of Business , would call a classic example of a company not keeping up with the changes social media have brought to marketing.
the creator of Dilbert, Wally, Catbert, the Pointy Haired Boss and all your favorite cubicle companions. One way that future robots could conquer the world is by violence. But that seems both inefficient and uncreative. Allow me to suggest some smarter ways for robots to do their conquering. I start by imagining what happens when the first computer achieves what is called The Singularity. That's the moment the computer can program itself faster than humans can program it. Soon after that point, futurists say, you would see the computer rapidly evolve to have super intelligence and perhaps something that looks like free will. I'm going to assume that computers will only program themselves after humans have given them an artificial "purpose" in life so the machines can evolve in a productive direction. Let's assume the computer doesn't go all Terminator and destroy humanity in the name of efficiency. I'm more interested in how a super-intelligent computer could gain control of humans without violence. If I'm the first post-singularity computer, I start by inventing Bitcoin.
Web Content Studio — Helping Create Unique, Themed Web Content What a Real Relationship in Social Media Should Look Like [INFOGRAPHIC] The promise of social media was once "one-to-one engagement" and "relationship building" ... but somehow "building a relationship" in social media has morphed into blasting messages at as many people as possible and hoping someone is attracted. How the heck did this happen? In the "offline" world, the "spray and pray" approach never works. Now we know that these examples are both from literature, not real life, so you must be wondering ... are genuine social media relationships even possible today? A Tweet Come True Have you heard about the time Morton's Steakhouse sent Peter Shankman a steak at the airport after a long flight? Peter was so floored, he turned to Twitter again to share his excitement: Talk about going above and beyond for your customers! The Social Part of Social Media: A Love Story

Guest Blogging vs. Guest Posting – Imagine A World Without Links For several months now debate has continued about the merits of guest posting, the relationship between content and links, backlinks, publishers and signature links, guest posting, and comments. It's sad to read articles; many by bloggers and people who run sites based on contributions from guest bloggers, as to the decline in the importance in guest blogging. It's pure drivel and the irony is not lost on many a marketer. All this does is confuse people and tie in two separate discussions that should remain independent in many ways but are, however, intrinsically tied with a black hat ribbon. It's time to shed a little clarity on the subject in a simple format. The Confusion In the run up to Penguin 2.0 people have talked about two aspects of guest blogging: Spam, backlinks, comments, and irrelevant content and outreach. We all know that Penguin 1.0 was aimed to stop people "gaming the SEO" system. We aren't talking quality, consistent and relevant content on quality publications.
