TetraBox Light by Ed Chew Liquid to Light Designer Ed Chew takes a green step in the right direction with the TetraBox lamp, a light object made from discarded drink packets that would have otherwise ended up in landfills already packed to the brim. The design is achieved by unfolding the packets and refolding them into hexagonal and pentagonal sections that are then pieced together to form a geodesic sphere or any other desired shape. Here, the Epcot-like ball makes an attractive overhead light and casts an impressive web of shadows and shapes on the surrounding space. Designer: Ed Chew SHANE PRIGMORE

We pay our dues every day, in terms of the extra effort that we must make to live in a right-handed world. For fun, I started making a list of the aspects of everyday life that are geared towards right-handed people. We have to use special "lefty" scissors. Back to Lucas' writings. Hand Embroidered Cards Look what I found in my desk drawer! I made these embroidered cards so long ago and then just tucked them away in a drawer to be forgotten about. What a shame! I thought these cards would make a great DIY for the blog because they're easy and fun to make, and you probably have all the supplies on hand already. What you'll need: Pencil for drawing your designPiece of thick cardboardEmbroidery flossSheets of blank paperEmbroidery needle and a pin with a headBlank Card Start by drawing out your design on a piece of thin blank paper. When I made my fruit cards, I actually used an iron-on transfer from Sublime Stitching, which is a really great book that you should all run out and buy right this very second. Now you can start poking holes along the lines using the pin with a head. Now comes the fun part! I just used a back stitch for my whole design, but you could get really creative here with different stitches. Once you're done, admire your work!

Canvas bag ($2.00 when on sale at Hobby Lobby), fabric paint, paper doily, Krylon Paper Finishes Adhesive Spray : Spray doily with paper spray adhesive and press down on the bag (not shown). : Gently paint over the holes – I recommend paint meant for fabric, not crafts. : Peel back doily before paint dries. Bag after doily is removed I traced on my letter and filled it in with paint. For a cook: fill it with cooking supplies For a gardner: fill it with gardening supplies For a teacher: lots of fake wood painted apples (I’m kidding)…maybe find out an activity they enjoy and do something related to that

Matthew, I picked a couple of your pearls: Games (cut my teeth on the original Adventure game), and origami. I used to know how to program, but 8 years off the net and I've got a couple of new languages to learn. I used to write simulations based on social behavior and marketing. I'm a gamer at heart. And as you can see from the faces, I still am attracted to behavior. it's a combination to be both right-brained (creative) and left-brained (logical), one that the best gamers and science-fiction authors share. I haven't published per se, but the faces on blocks have sold, so do the little handmade books where I also do the faces; I suppose that's a form of publication. I did my own facial expressions and © them.
