I will let the screenshots speak for themselves, but i’m all over this one for: 1. the icons… esp when animated. *swoon* 2. the maps 3. the drop shadowed speech bubbles… oh and also the colors and flatness… as well as the old school “fit the pieces in” packing puzzles! Sidenote: on Puma iconography… remember these great inspirational ones on the door during construction? This should be what i have as my “away” image… Tags: bikes - fashion - UX

Mesmerizing Marker Installations by Heike Weber If you liked the marker-drawn murals by Charlotte Mann as a way to decorate your room, you’ll also love this like-minded German artist Heike Weber. Based in Cologne, she uses permanent markers to create mesmerizing floor and wall drawings which sometimes cover up to 5000 square ft. By carefully planning and controlling the white spaces between each line, Heike gives her drawings a 3D feeling. The space around the viewer may seem to be constantly swirling and floating, and you might find yourself losing the ground under your feet. Besides her meticulous marker drawings, Heike also applies various linear techniques to her paper works and also does photography, sculpture and object creation. Home - Africa vernacular architecture Manifesto of Futurist Architecture No architecture has existed since 1700. A moronic mixture of the most various stylistic elements used to mask the skeletons of modern houses is called modern architecture. The new beauty of cement and iron are profaned by the superimposition of motley decorative incrustations that cannot be justified either by constructive necessity or by our (modern) taste, and whose origins are in Egyptian, Indian or Byzantine antiquity and in that idiotic flowering of stupidity and impotence that took the name of neoclassicism. These architectonic prostitutions are welcomed in Italy, and rapacious alien ineptitude is passed off as talented invention and as extremely up-to-date architecture. And so this expressive and synthetic art has become in their hands a vacuous stylistic exercise, a jumble of ill-mixed formulae to disguise a run-of-the-mill traditionalist box of bricks and stone as a modern building. The problem posed in Futurist architecture is not one of linear rearrangement.

A sustainable future: the role of the architect and designer in delivering low carbon buildings | METROBLOGS Sofie Pelsmakers In my final guest blog, I wanted to explore the role of the designer and architect in delivering a sustainable built environment. In the past, architects would manage the design and construction of buildings from start to finish, handling all the costing, material selection, on-site construction, project management, furniture design and finishes. However, as construction processes become ever-more complex, it is increasingly common for such roles to be delegated to other professionals, particularly in larger scale projects. And while architects, their buildings and clients undoubtedly benefit from a wider team and a multi-disciplinary approach, architects have become further removed from the actual construction itself, which is problematic. If designers are to play a crucial role in the delivery of low carbon buildings, then we cannot afford to remain construction inexperienced and environmentally illiterate. The Ultimate Guide to Streamlining Your Architectural Production Process - EntreArchitect - This week’s post is written by David M. Sanders, AIA a residential architect based in Capistrano Beach, California. David has generously shared his own system for preparing the ultimate set of construction documents. You may learn more about David and his firm at his website. Many of us here at Entrepreneur Architect have taken the excellent advice of our host and begun to strengthen our marketing plans. Getting more conversions is great, and important, but what about the other end of the equation? Since my early years in the profession, I’ve always had a bit of OCD about organization and have been quickly put in charge of the drafting standard at firms I’ve worked at. ConDoc was invented several years ago and is a familiar system to commercial practitioners. The NCS is a more comprehensive scheme that gets into the real nitty-gritty of the documentation process and is commonly utilized for governmental projects. Step 1: Your Master Specification Step 2: Your Drawing Index
