Rethinking Oral Health Care: A Homemade Toothpaste Recipe for Tooth Remineralization

Rethinking Oral Health Care: A Homemade Toothpaste Recipe for Tooth Remineralization
Several years ago, I started to question some of the ingredients in commercial toothpastes as well as the approach of modern dentistry in general. I view some modern dentistry practices as appropriate and beneficial. Consider, though, that the foundation of today’s dental philosophy is similar to the mainstream medical model in that it focuses on treatment and not prevention. I believe the focus of dentistry (like medicine) should be prevention of decay and disease through sound nutrition and a healthy lifestyle. This begins in utero (even pre-conception), when the teeth and jaw structure are formed, is well established through breastfeeding, and must be adhered to for one’s lifetime. Avoiding dental decay and disease through diet is challenging, because it means one must stray far from the standard American diet. Spark Health has a DIY Dental eCourse available. Remineralization When most dentists detect a cavity, they suggest filling it, usually without thinking twice. A Safer Alternative

Kool-Aid Hair Dye How to dye your hair with Kool-aid? Yeah that’s right. The best thing about it is that it’s not permanent! Lasts for about two weeks. All you need is two or more packets of your color choice, a small bowl or two (depending on how many colors you're planning on doing), water, and some of your everyday conditioner! This is super simple. What you'll need: good-sized paint brush (for streaks of color) 2 or more packets of unsweetened Kool-Aid (more if you're doing many streaks or your whole hair) small bowls for each color conditioner plastic wrap and/or tin foil (plastic wrap is more comfy to sleep on. Warnings: This stains pretty much everything from clothing to skin to white counter tops. put down some newspaper! STEP ONE: (If you are dying your whole head, I suggest about five packets, although you might need more or less considering whether or not you have long or short hair. STEP TWO: Put a few drops of water in - NOT TOO MUCH.

Fluoride: Friend or Foe? | The Smart Living Network In my hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan, there sits a monument to a scientific study performed 70 years ago which changed the face of dental care. This study involved the public use of fluoride in drinking water to prevent cavities. Now, fluoride is commonplace in routine preventative dental care. Current practice however, has evolved with some debate, and some critics. The Story of Fluoride and Teeth The story of dental fluoride began a bit unexpectedly in 1901 when a young dental school graduate named Frederick McKay moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado to start a dental practice. A breakthrough finally came in 1923 in Idaho when children started getting brown teeth shortly after a new water source was tapped for public use. Years of research exquisitely linked fluoride to the brown teeth and revealed the threshold amounts which left no stains in young, growing teeth. How Does Fluoride Work? Cavities are about sugar, bacteria and acid. Too Much of a Good Thing Evolution of Use Sources: or

Size zero Size zero or 0 is a women's clothing size in the US catalog sizes system. Size 0 and 00 were invented due to the changing of clothing sizes over time (referred to as vanity sizing or size inflation), which has caused the adoption of lower numbers. Modern size 0 clothing, depending on brand and style, fits measurements of chest-stomach-hips from 30-22-32 inches (76-56-81 cm) to 33-25-35 inches (84-64-89 cm). Size 00 can be anywhere from 0.5 to 2 inches (1 to 5 cm) smaller than size 0.[1][2] Size zero often refers to extremely thin individuals (especially women and adolescent girls), or trends associated with them. Criticism[edit] Katie Green, who initiated a campaign against size zero modeling The use of size 0 in advertisements and products of the clothing industry has been met with some media attention. In July 2009, Katie Green won a competition to represent Wonderbra. Movement against size zero[edit] Victoria Beckham, in 2010 Israel banned underweight models in March 2012. See also[edit]

How A Root Canal Could Be Making You Sick When I was 5 years old, I remember buying a big box of pink tape gum and liquorice strings right before my family and I were about to fly from Newfoundland to our new hometown in British Columbia. “Gots’ to be prepared for the plane ride,” I mused. But little did I know that over the course of the 7 hour flight I was blatantly over feeding the sugar-loving bacteria in my mouth, and would soon be faced with my first tooth infection at age 5. Even worse, my first root canal. A root canal is hardly an enjoyable experience for a grown adult, let alone a 5 year old kid, and by the time I was 22, I had undergone 3 in total. I never stopped to question the dental procedure itself, I mean, what kid or parent would question their dentist? But there are more risks involved with root canals than many are aware of, as I recently discovered, the likes of which are a good cause for consideration. When A Dentist’s Perspective Changed In a recent article by Dr. “I did a lot of root canals for many years.

Welcome - My Body Gallery - What Real Women Look Like My Body StoriesThe Reality of Body-Love I have identified myself as fat my entire life. I was no older than seven when this first was a realization. Everyone in my family was big, and a lot of this identity for myself had to do with their own self-image problems and years of shaming being passed down. I was on diets from a very early age, and remember keenly always being conscious of how far from the doctor's BMI chart I actually was. Struggling, ongoing, with health issues that reduced my ability to be active compounded the issue. EveryBODY I was a "big girl" most of my life. View MoreSubmit Story NewsPlease Read This! This site is here as an accurate reflection of what real women look like. Why? A recent study found that 95% of non-eating disordered women overestimate the size of their hips by 16% and their waists by 25%, yet the same women were able to correctly estimate the width of a box. Drill-free fillings are the future as dentists develop 'self-repairing' tooth decay treatment - Health News - Health & Families The technique, developed at King’s College London, effectively reverses decay by using electrical currents to boost the tooth’s natural repair process. Minerals that are lost during decay and eventually cause painful cavities are replaced, removing the need for drilling and fillings of resin or amalgam. The technique, known as Electrically Accelerated and Enhanced Remineralisation (EAER), could be available within three years. Professor Nigel Pitts, from the Dental Institute at King’s College London, said: “The way we treat teeth today is not ideal – when we repair a tooth by putting in a filling, that tooth enters a cycle of drilling and re-filling as, ultimately, each ‘repair’ fails. “Not only is our device kinder to the patient and better for their teeth, but it’s expected to be at least as cost-effective as current dental treatments.” The method can also be used to whiten teeth, he said. Electric currents are already used by dentists to check the pulp or nerve of a tooth.
