The Vulgar Tongue (Grose et al. 1811) / · Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue A dictionary of the slang of the British underworld produced in 1811. This was based on an earlier book by Francis Grose, which I have not found on-line. Francis Grose in turn may have used the 1736 dictionary of Theiving Slang which I have transcribed myself. You might also be interested in The Antiquities of England and Wales which Captain Francis Grose also wrote. The title page of The Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue reads as follows: Lexicon Balatronicum A Dictionary of Buckish Slang, University Wit and Pickpocket Eloquence. The title, Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue, appears above the start of the definitions. I should note that Project Gutenberg also has a text transcription of this dictionary. I have not transcribed the Preface. Nearby:

Stereo Mood Jaymay Music | Official Site How publishers curate the world of content Advertisement It's nothing new that many news websites augment their own content with repackaged content from around the Web, but the applications have evolved along with the technology. Content providers are experimenting with all sorts of ways for editors and technology to push outside content to readers, whether through aggregation or curation (for a lengthy discussion about the difference, check out the Nieman Journalism Lab). While publishers choose to utilize aggregation and curation platforms in a variety of ways, the main point is clear: Many media companies see benefits in collecting content from around the Web. Publishers find curation can attract and retain readers by offering the best of all content, rather than the best of just their own content. Here are a few ways publishers are deploying these platforms to add to their site's content: Topic hubs Topical pages have gone beyond story lists, pulling in interactive content both inside and outside of news organizations.

AcadIntelInter U Wall TV © 2021 - Privacy - Terms Loud3r Launches popURLs Competitor At a glance, Loud3r appears to be yet another version of popURLs or Alltop, just with a lot more verticals right off the bat. Dig a little deeper (you don't have to dig very far) and you'll see that one major differentiating factor for loud3r is that it's also a social network. You can create a user profile, and it will universally give you access to your profiles on lound3r's family of sites. However, this isn't the only thing that makes loud3r different from the rest. With mainstream users in mind, popURLS and Alltop take the simplified and heavily curated approach to presenting an aggregated site of news feeds. loud3r, on the other hand, has an involved algorithm for determining the best content from across the Web, depending on your particular interest. There's also a Most Popular tab for sites in loud3r's network, but it's the Most Interesting tab loud3r is most concerned with. There are privacy settings and the option to not have this sort of feature activated by default.

10 Great Scenes in Musical History Movies and TV After the surprising success of my first list (by which I mean it wasn’t immediately tossed onto the virtual slush pile), I felt inspired to write another. This list focuses on some of the best-loved scenes in musical theater history, and covers roughly sixty-six years. Needless to say, it’s difficult to compound six decades into 5000-odd words, but one tries. Unlike in my last list, not all of the musicals these scenes are from were successful or memorable, but the scenes themselves are classic, innovative or showcase great talent. I’ve been confident enough to go into far more detail this time around, though I’ve also tried to make certain not to repeat anything that was already visited in the last list. Singin’ in the Rain Singin’ in the Rain (1952) A perennial classic, Singin’ in the Rain produced a star in 19-year-old Debbie Reynolds, while further cementing the brilliance of Gene Kelly. Two Little Girls from Little Rock Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953) Girl Hunt
