Paul English, the cofounder of travel search engine Kayak.com, wants to blanket all of Africa with free and low-cost Wi-Fi. It's a "big, big project," one that will consume the next decade of his life, English tells FastCompany.com. JoinAfrica aims to bring a world of information to a continent whose population only has 8.7% Internet penetration right now. English plans to kick off the nonprofit/for-profit hybrid this summer by creating partnerships between JoinAfrica and local African for-profit telcos. "I want this to be completely self-sustaining," he says. From his home in Boston, English says he's already bought satellite dishes and other gear and helped hook up villages in a number of African countries over the past decade, from Burundi to Uganda and Malawi to Zambia. Soon, however, it became clear that one-off projects weren't enough. Though English admits the project might cost billions, he's committed to the initiative, even if it means self-financing.

We’re dividing the work on this project into four basic phases. Phase 1. Data migration As described here, we’ve imported over every account that we have on Xanga over to the new system so that anyone who could sign into Xanga can still sign into Xanga 2.0. (Try it here!) Finally and most important of all, we’ve imported over 2 million blogs from the old system. * We’ve archived the blogs of the hundreds of thousands of blogs where the user has logged in in the past 5 years and has at least two subscribers. * We did an additional set of archives for 200k users who had logged in the past year and had at least 10 blogs. * We’ve also archived the blogs of every single user that’s ever been premium at any point in the past… And of course, a lot of you guys archived your own blogs using the old Xanga archive generator. So, I nearly cried when I found out it was about 5 inches too long to fit into said very cramped back entryway. I set out to wander around a very large hardware store and find something that I could use in the same fashion. We bought poplar boards from the trims aisle of Home Depot. We also bought large and small L-brackets to attach the wood to our walls and appropriate hardware: short screws to attach the brackets to the wood planks (.5 inch), longer screws and plastic drywall anchors to attach the brackets to the walls. Before that, the drinking question was left to the states. In the 19th century, and looking back even before — prepare yourself to imagine horrific anarchistic nightmares — there were no drinking laws anywhere, so far as anyone can tell. Really, it is only because we are somehow used to it that we accept the complete absurdity of a national law that prohibits the sale of beer, wine, and liquor to anyone under the age of 21. And yet every day, young people are finding ways around these preposterous restrictions that are hardly ever questioned, imbibing with their booze a disdain for the law and a creative spirit of criminality, along with a disposition to binge drink when their legal workarounds succeed. On college campuses, the industry of the fake ID thrives as never before. But the habit of prohibition was already ingrained.

See ya next week! - Dan I love jello shots. if you know me personally then you have most likely had my jello shots at least once because ill take pretty much any excuse to make them. jello + alcohol = awesome Now when I first tell people about my obsession with jello shots I think they immediately flash back to some college party where there were two types of jello shots: green with a handle of ten dollar vodka and yellow with a handle of ten dollar rum. The basic method is as follows: boil one cup of water, add one packet of jello, mix two minutes (don't skimp on this it will be grainy!) My basic tools. bowl and spoon for mixing, flat measuring cup for easy measuring of liquids, ladle and spouted measuring cup for filling. I get these little cups at a restaurant supply store. "margarita" this one can only be done as a double because it has two alcohols.
