Ring Around the Rosies

Ring Around the Rosies
First of all, I promise this isn’t turning into a food blog But, I asked on facebook what you all would like me to post next, and sharing my first attempt at freezer cooking won the vote! If you want more freezer meal ideas, follow me on facebook now! So, yesterday I achieved my first ever attempt at “freezer cooking”. Stephanie, one of my favorite bloggers over at Mama and Baby Love did a post about it months ago, and I’ve wanted to do it ever since, but just haven’t taken the time. I wish I would’ve done it a lot sooner, because I found that in “not taken the time” I was actually wasting a lot of time! I was pretty happy with my results! And my favorite thing, I can control all of the ingredients to make them as healthy as I want. So here is what I did…1) I made a list of my recipes. Yesterday, I made: 3)To start, I gathered all of the ingredients I needed. 4) Then, I chopped all of the veges first. Each recipe gave me TWO gallon size bags. Teriyaki Chicken Savory Chicken Lazy Day Stew

Pepperoni Pizza Pull-Apart Bread I can't even being to tell you how cute we looked at our little coffee table yesterday with this beauty between us. We sat on the floor Indian-style across from each other, and one by one, without any utensils whatsoever, consumed the mighty pizza bread together (while catching up on the latest The Daily Show funnies). We really liked it - the seasoned butter really adds an extra layer of richness to each bite. I also ended up using sourdough bread (they didn't have regular bread at the bakery at our local supermarket this time), and I think I'll stick with it next time! It was so cheesy and gooey - just how I like my pizza. I thought it was a little funny yesterday when Ryan and I were making dinner. "So... are you just getting bored?" This cracked me up. Pepperoni Pizza Pull-Apart Bread Ingredients: 1 round loaf of sourdough bread 2 C Shredded mozzarella Cheese 1 package mini-pepperoni 3 T butter, melted 1/2 t garlic powder 1/2 t dried oregano 3 T shredded Parmesan Cheese Directions: 1. 2. 3. 4.

One of my goals for the new year is to do more freezer meals for my family. In looking over my spending habits for 2011 I can clearly see that our family spent entirely too much money eating out and I need to bring that down in 2012. Even though I have a stockpile of food there are many days where I look and say “we don’t have anything to eat”. So, back to the goal….do more batch cooking and have options in my freezer ready to go for those days we don’t feel like cooking and are tempted to going out for dinner or grabbing a donut or muffin at the store. I hate cooking breakfast. Ingredients: 2 lbs. bacon, diced 2 lbs. breakfast sausage 1 large onion, diced small 1 cup diced bell pepper (I used frozen diced bell pepper) 20 eggs 36 fajita sized flour tortillas 1 (8 oz.) bag shredded cheddar cheese

Farmers’ Market Recipe Collection: Grilled Garden Wrap It appears I have a wee problem on my hands. No, wait, that didn’t come out right. Er, I mean… How about this – I can’t stop making sandwich-ish type dishes for dinner! Well, I promise you’ll forgive me after one tiny bite of this wrap, which is bursting with the fresh, smoky, and sweet flavors of grilled eggplant, zucchini, and sweet corn, and raw cucumber and tomato. Not only are Grilled Garden Wraps mouthwatering, but they’re also the next recipe in my Farmers‘ Market Recipe Collection! Anyways! Slice the eggplant into 1/2″ slices, then lay the slices on a cooling rack, and generously salt both sides. In 10 minutes, the salt will have drawn out the excess moisture, causing it to bead up on top. While the eggplant’s being leached, slice a small yellow squash into diagonal slices, about 1/2″ thick. Next, brush both sides of the eggplant and squash slices with olive oil, and season both sides with grill seasoning. To the grill! Remove everything to your platter, and head back in! That’s it!

A Little Bit Crunchy A Little Bit Rock and Roll: 3.14159.... Chocolate Chess Pie I gave into temptation. I knew it was Pi Day. But unlike National Chocolate Cake Day, I told myself I would not succumb to the temptation of needing to bake a pie like I did a chocolate cake. Chess Pie, what's that? Chocolate Chess Pie (Recipe source: Apartment Therapy) ((Printable Version)) Ingredients: Chocolate Gram Crust- 10-11 sheets gram crackers (I prefer the "original", not the honey.) 5 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted 3 tablespoons sugar 1 tablespoon dark cocoa powder Filling- 1 stick unsalted butter 1 (1 ounce) square unsweetened chocolate (or 3 tablespoons cocoa) 1 cup sugar 2 eggs, lightly beaten 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt Directions: 1. 2. 3. 4. So, the verdict is..... I still don't know what "chess" pie is or how it got it's name, but I don't care, it is to die for. Linked to: Mangia Mondays, Sweets for a Saturday, Weekend Potluck

Well, this baby has still not made her appearance yet . . . But the extra days are giving me time to be a little more prepared! About a year ago, I was part of a "Freezer Meal Group Swap" in my neighborhood and once a month we would all get together and swap freezer meals. I would usually spend a couple of hours in the kitchen one Saturday a month, cooking up a storm and in the end, it was so nice to have 5-6 meals prepared that I didn't have to worry about for that next month. Unfortunately, our Freezer Meal Group no longer gets together and I just have not been motivated enough to make my own meals. But as my due date has gotten closer, I have been thinking about how nice it would be to just pull something out of the freezer and have all the work done for dinner. However, some of the recipes that we tried were terrible. the recipe for each meal,

How do I plan? - we eat leftovers once a week - I allow for 2 nights of eating out per month - we always have breakfast for dinner at least once a month - I try to vary chicken, beef, and fish recipes - I double every recipe that I can and store them in the freezer. - I also prepare both breakfast tacos and lunch tacos for the month (recipes below). How do I prep it all? I make 3 lists as I gather recipes: 1. 2. 3. How much does it cost? This month I spent $200 at SAM's and $129 at HEB. Here is my December calender: 1. 2.

I had never even seen a slow cooker before and had no idea the range of foods that could be created in a plug-in cooking pot. Since then I have had everything from No-Peek-Chicken, Swedish Meatballs and Peach cobbler, done in one of these magic devices. When my husband was an art director Aveda they had “crock pot parties,” which meant everyone plugged in their slow cookers at their desks and made a dish to share. But, bread in a crock pot? 1 pound dough (Click here for our No-Knead 5-Minute Bread Recipe. Form the dough into a ball and place it on a sheet of parchment paper. Update: I just mixed up a fresh batch of ABin5 Peasant Bread Dough, let it rise for the two hours in the bucket, then formed a 1-pound loaf and stuck it in the crock pot. Turn the temperature to high and put on the cover. Bake for 1 hour (this will depend on your crock pot, you may need to increase or decrease the time. Related Post:
