Gathering Magic | Magic the Gathering Forum, Blog & Spoilers. Magic: The Gathering Magic: The Gathering (MTG; also known as Magic) is a trading card game created by Richard Garfield. First published in 1993 by Wizards of the Coast, Magic was the first trading card game produced and it continues to thrive, with approximately twelve million players as of 2011[update].[1][2][3][4][5][4][6][4][7][8] Magic can be played by two or more players each using a deck of 60+ printed cards or a deck of virtual cards through the Internet-based Magic: The Gathering Online or other programs. History[edit] Richard Garfield was a doctoral candidate at University of Pennsylvania when he first started to design the game. During his free time he worked with local volunteer playtesters to help refine the game. While the game was simply called Magic through most of playtesting, when the game had to be officially named a lawyer informed them that Magic was too generic to be trademarked. Magic was an immediate success for Wizards of the Coast. Reception[edit] Awards[edit] Gameplay[edit] Notes[edit]

MTG Salvation - Magic: The Gathering Articles, Rumors & Communit Where Legends Come To Life A Beginners Guide to Magic the Gathering How to Assess a Good Card, Build a Beatdown Deck, and Improve Play Greetings! My old friend Matias is getting into Magic Online and we've been searching for a good resource that helps starting magic players. There are many useful guides for those completely new to the game, not the least of which are the Getting-Started walk-throughs provided by Wizards right in the Starter Decks. So what's in this guide and how will it help our Magic game? Lastly, to save a lot of time and hassle for the beginning player, we've listed all the good cards that were available in 2003. Enjoy! Assessing a Good Card Card Value depends on Deck Type(s) The very first thing to realize is that cards have greater or lesser value depending on what type of deck you are playing them in, and also what types of decks you play them against. Now, even though cards don't have an "absolute scale" of goodness, some cards are clearly better than others. (even their edition is the same!) Basics of Assessing a Good Card . .
