My Purple dress Purple is my favorite color, that’s why it was one of the main colors of our wedding (along with green, Ken’s favorite color). But after the wedding and for longer than a year I could not even look at purple, I was so sick of it! Happily I am finally detoxing from purple =] So my first step to officially show my re-born love for that color, is to finally wear it again. I decided to make a dress for Ken’s cousin wedding last weekend and as usual I had to share it with all of you. I had that purple fabric way before our wedding – I actually brought it from Chile – and yes, if you are wondering, did she really move to the California with a bunch of fabric? I used some leftover fabric from the bridesmaids dresses I made for our wedding. I used to love strapless dresses and never really had a problems, but since I moved to California I’ve gain some weight and a big part of it has gone to my front area. I love the way all the ruffles move when I turn!
making chapstick | tidytipsy.photography When the weather gets cooler my mind turns not only to knitting but also to making body products. I made chapstick already last year, but wasn’t overly happy with the recipe, so I tried a different one this year. I used: 20% beeswax 25% coconut oil 15% cocoa butter 40% olive oil No coloring, no scent, no smell. I actually like the faint smell of beeswax :) I was aiming for three or four tubes worth of chapstick and eyeballed the quantity. Now I’m not that good with numbers, so eyeballing was probably not the best idea in the first place. The process is very simple: 1. 2. 3. Done! Like this: Like Loading... Sewing 101: Smocking I love fabric manipulation. There are millions of ways to manipulate fabric. One of the ways is smocking. So for Sewing 101 we will do Smocking 101. Nothing fancy here, no machines, no fancy tools. All you need is a ruler, pencil, thread and needle. Start with the fabric you will be smocking. Then with a ruler you are going to draw dots on the fabric. We will start by gathering up the rows of dots. Then move on to the next dot and make another small stitch under the next dot. Then leave a long thread at the end of the row. Then start by gathering up two rows. Then for your decorative stitches I use embroidery floss. Then move over to hole number make a small stitch under hole 2 then another small stitch under hole 1. Then pull it tight. Small stitch through hole number 4 (right next to hole number 3) then small stitch through hole number 3. Keep repeating until you get done with all the holes. The next stitch is called the wave. simply pull it tight.

Tutorial: Skin Brightening Kiwi Mask Some white stuff is falling today. It’s not a blizzard but its enough to make the snow plow guys to come through my streets several times throughout the day. I think they were bored this winter and were probably more excited about the snow than my daughter! But truth be told – We NEED snow in the winter to nourish the earth. Warm winters are never good for the planet or our immune system ( ) so as inconvenient as cold brutal winter weather might seem to our lives, we do need cold winters and the snow. Having said though, cold weather also means dry dull skin. And among many skin moisturizing mask recipes, like my Moisturizing Avocado Face Mask , for some reason, kiwi sounds like it’s just what we need in the winter too – maybe because cold winters remind us how much we crave hot tropical weathers where kiwi fruits come from? I know kiwi is not exactly in season or local but sometimes I crave potent Vitamin C. *The knife looks grimly big in this picture. Sking Brightening Kiwi Mask
