Find Your Site's Biggest Technical Flaws in 60 Minutes The author's views are entirely his or her own (excluding the unlikely event of hypnosis) and may not always reflect the views of Moz. I've deliberately put myself in some hot water to demonstrate how I would do a technical SEO site audit in 1 hour to look for quick fixes, (and I've actually timed myself just to make it harder). For the pros out there, here's a look into a fellow SEO 's workflow; for the aspiring, here's a base set of checks you can do quickly. I've got some lovely volunteers who have kindly allowed me to audit their sites to show you what can be done in as little as 60 minutes. I'm specifically going to look for crawling, indexing and potential Panda threatening issues like: Architecture (unnecessary redirection, orphaned pages, nofollow) Indexing & Crawling (canonical, noindex, follow, nofollow, redirects, robots.txt, server errors) Duplicate content & On page SEO (repeated text, pagination, parameter based, dupe/missing titles, h1s, etc..) Let's meet our volunteers!
How to Find Converting Keywords (And Put Them to Work) It takes all kinds of keywords to make up a website, from head terms to the long tail, and different types of keywords accomplish different goals. Some drive tons of traffic, others are important for establishing authority. Then there are the keywords that convert. So how do you find those super-valuable converting keywords, and make them work harder for you? Step 1: Dig Into Your Analytics Using a basic analytics program like Google Analytics, it’s pretty easy to find the paid and organic keywords that are driving traffic to your site. It takes a little more digging to find the keywords that are driving conversions, but it’s not too difficult. You can apply your new custom segment to any area in Analytics. Step 2: Look for Patterns Depending on how much data you have, you might want to set your date range to a pretty long period (say, three months or a year) so you have enough aggregated keywords that you can start to look for patterns.

How To Find Keywords That WORK for Squidoo Lenses |Keyword Resea Finding Keywords That WORK on Squidoo – Yesterday, I did a quick video about the effectiveness of Squidoo these days since I have been hearing lots of “Squidoo doesn’t work anymore!” comments thru-out my travels on the internet. How To Find Keywords For a New Squidoo Lens Before we start, if you have NOT watched yesterdays video about the death of Squidoo, please watch it first (or else this video may not make as much sense to you). First…. I meant to post this video earlier today, but I had an emergency. The TV in my office just stopped working. Now don’t laugh… this is serious (said in my best “mean mom” voice…haha!) OK – my rambling is over now… Let’s talk about keyword for a Squidoo lens. In short, we need to give Google a REASON to index our lenses. Does Squidoo Still Work? Your thoughts?
10 Content Ideas To Improve Organic Visibility In the past series of articles, we focused on determining what keywords were already generating business for a web site and then optimizing your existing pages to improve organic results for those keywords. In this and some future articles, we’ll cover adding new content to a website as well as other web venues to improve organic visibility. When we work on a comprehensive marketing project for a client, we first learn about their business and then discover what marketing tactics their competitors have employed. At the same time, we learn what web venues are available to focus our marketing towards. Next, we develop a strategy that includes many tactical options including content for their site and other web venues, social marketing, referral site development and link building, etc. Together, we decide which of the tactics to begin deploying. Keyword Research Quite a bit of our content ideas for a specific client are developed as we do keyword research. 1. Tip: Sell Yourself On These Pages 2.
Visualize Your Keyword Research - YouMoz In early 2010 I shared a keyword tool I developed called Keyword Eye here on SEOmoz. I received some great feedback as a result of doing that. It's changed quite a bit since then, it had a major revamp, there were ups and downs, trials and tribulations, so thought I'd take this opportunity to share it again with readers who may remember the original post and new readers alike. What is Keyword Eye? It's a visual keyword suggestion tool. The cloud text size can be increased or decreased dynamically. Multiple keyword reports can be created. Each keyword report also includes a pie chart visualization (showing the search volume share for all keywords) and a grid view. All of the data can be downloaded into a CSV file for a quick export. Domain Organic Ranking Report A new addition to Keyword Eye is the ability to run a report for a domain. Those with a eagle eye (or even a keyword eye?) Please try it out, leave feedback and spread the word! I hope some of you find find this tool useful.
Types of Social Media Content to Boost SEO I’ve written often about the benefits of going viral in both content and marketing strategies. Increasingly, however, social media content (a.k.a. viral content) does more than increase brand recognition and site traffic: it can also boost your SEO signals. As search engines pay more and more attention to social signals, going viral is rapidly becoming one of the best ways to build links, attract attention, and establish authority and legitimacy in your field. How Social & SEO Are Linked Let’s start with the obvious: social media builds links. If one site is getting thousands of social shares, it sends three clear messages about your site to search engines: Your site is activeYour site is currentYour site is invested in the needs of your audience Search engines boil down to one basic concept: helping users find what they’re looking for. Viral content is like the mass endorsement of the public; a giant thumbs-up formed from thousands of hands. Viral Content = Valuable Content 1.) 2.) 3.) 4.)
ABC's of SEO: K is for Keyword Research - SiteVisibility There have been some interesting developments around keyword research this month, namely that Google are no longer providing search data from users logged into Google. The change has a serious impact on the data available for SEOs to make important decisions about keyword strategy. I could write a whole blog post about it, but I think Blogstorm and SEObook probably did a better job than I can. Keyword research underpins SEO campaigns, but both the tools and software which we use and our approach conducting this research is always changing. YouTube Keyword Suggestion Tool YouTube has its own keyword suggestion tool, and this can be very useful if you want to dominate the search results of this search engine. Ebay as a Keyword Research Tool Ebay can be an interesting tool to use to perform keyword research, thanks to their Research Labs which help sellers to optimise their listings.
