Nickandroff’s Journal – The 10 Greatest Punk Albums Per Year, 1975-2011 – Last.fm Jenni Fagan on getting published Author Jenni Fagan was recently selected as one of Granta’s Best of Young British Novelists and her book, The Panopticon, featured on for Waterstones 11 – a list of the best debut novels of 2012. She talks to Kirsty Logan about developing ideas through automatic writing... When did you feel comfortable calling yourself a writer? I always thought I was a writer, especially when I was doing utterly crap jobs and unable to imagine actually being published. I began writing at the age of seven: I grew up in local authority care and moved often so writing was my constant. I have always known how it is to exist on the periphery and to observe people, families, cultures, dialect etc. Did you feel impatient when you were unpublished? I had a vague desperate notion that someone might dig up my writing one day after I was dead and think, “Oh, look, some good writing!” What advice do you have for young writers? What's the hardest lesson you've learned? Not to take things personally.
The Girl in the Photograph One school day, a boy named Tom was sitting in class and doing math. It was six more minutes until school let out. As he was doing his homework, something caught his eye. His desk was next to the window, and he turned and looked to the grass outside. He picked it up and smiled. She was so beautiful he wanted to meet her, so he ran all over the school and asked everyone if they knew her or have ever seen her before. When he was home, he asked his older sister if she knew the girl, but unfortunately she also said “No.” In the middle of the night Tom was awakened by a tap on his window. The next day again he asked his neighbors if they knew her. Once again he was awakened by a tapping. The driver got out of the car and tried to help him, but it was too late. He saw a cute girl holding up three fingers.

Today is his birthday and since he is such a great inspiration to me in the kitchen and keeps me cooking along, I’m dedicating these wraps to him. Happy birthday Ben! Black Bean And Barley Wraps are very high in fiber, folate, protein, and antioxidants, along with numerous other vitamins and minerals. The black beans, barley, whole wheat wrap and the cashews all contain fiber. Considering that black beans contain at least 8 different flavonoids with enormous antioxidant potential, and their high content of phytochemicals, it’s hardly surprising that studies have connected black bean consumption with a reduced risk of several cancers. Cashews are full of flavanols that starve tumors and stop cancer cells from dividing which greatly reduces the risk of cancer. The nutritional yeast in the cashew cheese spread adds a cheese like flavor. See Sources* Printer Friendly Version

LaSaGnA TiMpAnO I went to see tUnE-yArDs on Monday night with some friends, and as always we wanted to cook a meal that somehow related to the show we were heading to. Sometimes this is hard to do, but other times it seems to come naturally. Finding culinary inspiration in Merrill's lyrics seemed like it would be tough, but my sister knew what she wanted to make without hesitation. "How about something layered, because of all the vocal and instrument layering in the music?" From there we worked together to come up with this deep, colorful, and multi-flavored lasagna version of a timpano. If you are using words like deep, colorful, and multi-flavored to describe something inspired by tUnE-yArDs, you already know you got it right! Start by making a lasagna crust. Finally got it together. Now it's easy, just start building the layers! Alfredo sauce with some salami goes first. After 3 alfredo layers, I switched to pesto. A cheese only layer, just for fun. Tomato sauce is last. All sealed up. After baking.
