Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cupcakes
Semi-homemade meets a good cause-I’m so rocking Sandra Lee style today with a tub of school fund-raising cookie dough. Some of you may be ready to click away, but do me a favor…keep reading because the end result it worth your time. I’m typically not a big fan of using premade cookie dough, but I am a fan of taking action when it comes to raising money for schools. Whether it’s stale popcorn, hideous wrapping paper or double chocolate chunk cookie dough, if it’s for a school, I’m writing a check!
Butterbeer
This is part III in a mini-series of Harry Potter snacks from the books brought to life (part I is on Honeydukes treats, part II is all about the cauldron cakes, and part IV showcases decadent butterbeer cupcakes). Last August, my family made the two thousand mile journey to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios. Orlando has always been one of my family's favorite vacation destinations. Add in my love (and obsession) with Harry Potter and we all knew that once the park officially opened I couldn't be kept away for long. On the big day, we woke up at an obscene hour to a bright dawn.
Cheeky Kitchen » Mexican Hot Chocolate Cupcakes
I had a love story all thunk up for this post. It had something to do with chocolate. And children. And Mexico. And my mother-in-law. And hot chocolate.
How to Make Pasta from Scratch - In Italy!
We arrived at the tiny train station that lies on the borders of Tuscany and Umbria. Luckily, we made sure to book our train tickets to Chiusi Chianciano Terme the day we arrived in Italy so that we wouldn’t miss out on the Italian cooking class we had been eagerly anticipating for months. As we exited the platform, it didn’t take long to find our host waiting near her Range Rover, ready to drive us to the estate. From the moment we climbed into Alina’s car, I was already salivating at the thought of all the fresh Tuscan food we were about to cook and devour.
Cauldron Cakes
This is part II of my mini-series on Harry Potter snacks from the books brought to life (part I is on Honeydukes treats, part III features every wizard's favorite drink—butterbeer!— and part IV showcases decadent butterbeer cupcakes). When I was young, I wanted to grow up to be a writer. I also wanted to be a teacher, deep sea diver, and a cashier at McDonald's, but that's a different story. In early elementary school years, I would furiously write about anything and everything that came to mind. My stories expressed the affairs most important to a seven year old girl—monsters, dolls, and the first day of school.
Red Velvet Cake Balls
I first tasted these two years ago at a Christmas party and immediately had to have the recipe. It’s based on a mix, but I imagine you can follow the same directions substituting from scratch cake and frosting (I’ll try that one day). You can also try it with other cake combinations.
Two-Bite Strawberry Hand Pies
This post comes to you from damply beautiful Seattle, Washington! Yes, kids, I am in Seattle for BlogHer Food 2012 and not just as an attendee, but I am speaking! I am nervous, but terribly excited, and ready to get the party started! The last month has been a CRAZY travel month for me. First, I went to Camp Blogaway, then I spent 6 days in Tokyo (expect a few Japanese themed recipes in the future – the place is life changing!), and now I am here in Seattle.
Butterbeer Cupcakes
This year for Halloween my oldest daughter decided to be Hermione from Harry Potter. Our long time friends we trick or treat with every year were all characters from Harry Potter as well. There was a Harry Potter, Draco Malfoy, Ginny Weasly and Hedgwig in addition to my Hermione.

Harry Potter Treats
This is part I in a mini-series of Harry Potter snacks from the books brought to life (part II is all about the cauldron cakes, part III features every wizard's favorite drink—butterbeer!— and part IV showcases decadent butterbeer cupcakes). Harry Potter has always held a special place in my life. I started reading the books when I was 11 years old. Harry and I grew up together. The books were as much of a part of my childhood as school or my friends.
Oreo Cheesecake
Hello sweet tooth! This decadent oreo cheesecake is literally just as good as it looks! I got this recipe from my wonderful Hungry Girl cookbook and I seriously didn’t think it would taste as incredible as it turned out. Nabisco 100 calorie Oreo Thin Crisps replace Oreo cookies and the ricotta and cream cheeses are all fat free. This recipe is for a single serving so feel free to double (or triple!)
Cold-Brewed Iced Coffee
Update 4/2014: Be sure to check out my new, improved cold-brewed iced coffee tutorial with step-by-step instructions and lessons learned since first posting about cold-brewed iced coffee. I started making my iced coffee this way a couple of years ago, thanks to this New York Times recipe that convinced me to do so. You add coffee grounds to cold water and let it sit at room temperature for several hours. Then you strain it through a coffee filter, and the result is a deep, rich, dark, and caffeine-packed glass of iced coffee. It’s a concentrate, so you’ll want to dilute it with water unless you’re in need of a serious buzz.
