Strawberry Basil Daiquiris As summer leaves us, I thought it was only fitting to go out with one of the most summery cocktails I could possibly think of: the daiquiri. I made these last week when it was gloomy and rainy in New York City, so I figured that these Strawberry Basil Daiquiris would help cheer Kramer and me right up. I switched things up from a typical daiquiri by adding, of course, the basil, but I also used one of my favorite liqours, St. Germain, in addition to rum, for a mellow sweetness that paired perfectly with the fresh strawberries. There’s nothing quite like sipping on a frozen daiquiri in the dead of summer – it cools you off and makes you care a little less about the sweltering heat. Fall is just around the corner, so I hope that everyone gets a chance to enjoy these last couple weeks of sunshine! Your ingredients, although I didn’t end up using any club soda. Juice your lime and lemon. Add your chopped strawberries, basil, lime and lemon juice, sugar, rum, St. Strawberry Basil Daiquiris

College Majors With Low Unemployment By Terence Loose If you're thinking about going back to school, we're guessing that choosing a degree that's attractive to employers is a priority. Are we right? Of course we are. If not, everyone would major in things like TV watching, shopping, and Angry Birds. But what degrees could lead to solid job prospects? To figure out the answer to that question, we talked to Susan Heathfield, a human resources expert and the writer of About.com's "Human Resources," which gives advice about how people can relate with coworkers and their workplace. We also checked out a 2012 Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce report entitled "Hard Times: College Majors, Unemployment and Earnings: Not All College Degrees Are Created Equal," which studied unemployment rates for recent grads, as well as those with some experience, in various majors. And getting a degree is something Heathfield highly recommends. Degree #1 - Health Care Administration Aging baby boomers will play a part, too.
Grown-Up Lime Ricky I made it to San Diego for BlogHer 2011! I went over to the Knorr USA kitchen yesterday, and I’m really excited to get cooking on Saturday morning. If you’re also here for the conference, stop by the Knorr booth at 11 AM on Saturday for the live cook off. Marco Pierre White will be there, so I’m going to try not to let my nervousness throw me off too much! It’s actually 5:30 AM right now – between my excitement and the 3-hour time difference, I don’t think I’ll be getting much sleep this weekend! Who doesn’t remember lime rickys from when they were a kid? What you’ll need. Remove the stems from your cherries and muddle them in the bottom of your shaker. Add the tequila, St. Shake for 30 seconds and strain into two ice filled glasses, then top with club soda. Garnish with more cherries and a lime wheel. Two Suns? Twin Stars Could Be Visible From Earth By 2012 By Dean Praetorius | HuffingtonPost.com Earth could be getting a second sun, at least temporarily. Dr. Brad Carter, Senior Lecturer of Physics at the University of Southern Queensland, outlined the scenario to news.com.au. Betelgeuse, one of the night sky’s brightest stars, is losing mass, indicating it is collapsing. When that happens, for at least a few weeks, we’d see a second sun, Carter says. The Star Wars-esque scenario could happen by 2012, Carter says... or it could take longer. But doomsday sayers should be careful about speculation on this one. In fact, a neutrino shower could be beneficial to Earth. UPDATE: To clarify, the news.com.au article does not say a neutrino shower could be beneficial to Earth, but implies a supernova could be beneficial, stating, "Far from being a sign of the apocalypse, according to Dr Carter the supernova will provide Earth with elements necessary for survival and continuity." UPDATE II: In a follow-up piece on news.com.au, Dr. Top Image: Source
Margaritas Made with Beer | Apartment Therapy The Kitchn Margarita purists may need to sit down and take a few deep breaths before reading this post. We know, this is an unconventional recipe for margaritas. But we promise it's good — and, it turns out, the idea is not really that uncommon. Epicurious and Rachael Ray both have recipes for margaritas made with beer, and ours is very similar — a mixture of tequila, beer, and frozen limeade. We refer to these as Markaritas, named after the friend who created them. We like them because they are so, so easy to mix up, and don't require us to squeeze dozens of limes. Gadgets for College Dorms It's almost time for college students to begin fall classes, so I thought it would be good to compile a list of gadgets for college dorms and apartments. The obvious ones, like smartphones, laptops, iPads and calculators aren't listed here because I went for the fun and unique gadgets instead. Take a look and let me know if you've found something cool that should be included. (Scroll to the bottom to see a video that demonstrates the gadgets.) 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8.
