Coming from three deadly cheetahs, it's the kind of invitation that's best refused - but amazingly, this impala escaped unscathed from its encounter. Luckily for the youngster, it seems these three male cheetahs simply weren't hungry. No claws for alarm: Astonishingly, these cheetahs, whose instinct is to hunt for food, decide to play with this baby impala That's because unlike other big cats, the cheetah hunts in the daytime, either in the early morning or late afternoon. And that seems to be the secret to the antelope's survival, as it's likely it fell into the cheetahs' clutches when they were already full - and tired out - from an earlier hunt. Can a college or university stream feature films through its VLE? To stream a feature film there are two issues involved, and two possible sets of permission required: permission to convert the film to a format suitable for streaming, and permission to show a film to an audience. 1. To stream a film from a server would inevitably require changing the format from video or DVD to a format suitable for streaming. Obtaining the required permission could be time-consuming and costly. 2. Assuming the college or university gains permission from the copyright owners to convert the film for streaming and host it on the VLE, there is an exception (s.34(2) of Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 (CDPA)) which permits the playing or showing of a sound recording or film before an audience consisting of teachers or pupils at an educational establishment. For the college or university to rely on this exception movie content that is subsequently put on the VLE should be accessible only to the staff providing the instruction and students receiving it. Here are five museums that offer excellent virtual tours and activities for students. The Vatican Museums website hosts a fairly detailed virtual tour of the Sistine Chapel. The tour allows visitors to zoom in on small areas and details of the interior of the Sistine Chapel. Visitors to the virtual tour can turn 360 degrees to view the interior of the Sistine Chapel from various angles. In addition to the tour of the Sistine Chapel the Vatican Museums host virtual tours of five other places and exhibits. The European Virtual Museum is the product of collaboration between twenty-seven European museums. Tenement Museum is a resource for US History teachers that can best be described as an interactive virtual museum. The Sand Cat – Desert Cat Extraordinaire Don’t be fooled by the off the scale cuteness quotient. This is the Sand Cat – or Felis margarita, a little known species of desert cat. In the wild it lives in areas that are too hot and dry for any other cat- the deserts of Africa and Asia, including the Sahara. It is the only desert species of cat known to us. It also lives in the Arabian desert and those of Iran and Pakistan, yet despite being so widespread it was not described by a European until 1858. He named it Felis margarita after Jean August Margueritte. To an extent the sand cat could be mistaken for a domestic cat but there are differences, noticeably the very broad head. Likewise with their height – they usually grow to about six centimeters taller than the domestic cat. One difference from the cats that we know which is difficult to see in these pictures is the fur that the cats have between their toes. So desolate is their natural habitat that sometimes the sand cat can go for months without a drink of water.
