I tend to start a new outline for each new topic. Mostly, I write text, but when I need a picture or web clip, I really like to able to grab it. E-mail and iTunes export is built into most iPad apps. I tried 4 outliner apps. Quick Summary of the Best OmniOutliner is expensive at $20, but if you depend on outlining for research or meeting notes, it is the clear winner. At $1 Notability is the best buy. ThinkBook is best at project monitoring. As a word processor, Pages can create lists, but it has minimal outlining capability. Notability $1 Cumbersome organization. Organization: Number, letter and bullet labeling. Notability had most of the features I was looking for, so I was surprised to find that it has no block movement options at all. The lack of block organization carries over to labeling. Outlines are saved as "notes" grouped as "subjects."

Pesquisa de Outliners OK, you’ve brainstormed to get a sense of the possibilities for your project and you’re ready to get going. The next logical step in the process is to gather everything you’ve already done and all the clippings you have saved in anticipation of this day. It would be great if the iPad could help you gather what you need into a single work area so you could then draw upon those materials in your project and add things as you find them as you go along. The iPad is currently limited in its gathering functionality. My Mac dictionary has this to say about gathering in general: “bring together and take in from scattered places or sources“. Tree: A New Dimension in Outlining Creating an outline is a handy way to organize, plan and brainstorm. One of the strengths of the outline is its hierarchical linear relationship among the topics in the list. That can also be one of its limitations, as the list can become long and start feeling one-dimensional. The outliner Tree tries to remedy this with a twist on the standard outlining format. In Tree you can expand your outlines horizontally, as well as vertically. Tree is the work of Japanese developer Kazuhiro Kawana, whose website is called Top of Tree. Tree has two viewing options for your outline: Listview and Treeview. Tree outliner in "Listview" mode Outlining in Tree The first thing I do when evaluating an outlining application is to just start using it. Tree isn’t hard to get used to. Tree provides multiple options for re-organizing the notes in your outline. Likewise, moving items around the outline is pretty easy too. Inline Notes In Tree outliner, you can view your topic notes inline. Conclusion
