The Factory Colors IN COLOR BALANCE | Подбор цвета The Color Strata – Color Names, Common And Less So, Compared I’m an incorrigible data hound. So, once the tempting aroma of XKCD’s color name survey results tickled my nose, I had no choice – but to run to the dining room, stand up on my hind legs, and yank that statistical top sirloin off the table. Om nom nom yum yum yum! For those unfamiliar, XKCD is the popular webcomic, and on its sister blog, author Randall Munroe announced his survey as follows: I’d like your help for a color name survey! XKCD's Color Map During the next two months, over 200,000 people named more than 5,000,000 random hues. Now, deep in the cockles of my drama queen heart, there’s always been a little shrine for the colors with the charismatic, less-spoken names. Their Achilles’ heel? Egads! The Color Strata. The Color Strata includes the 200 most common color names (excluding black-white-grayish tones), organized by hue horizontally and relative usage vertically, stacked by overall popularity, shaded representatively, and labeled where possible. The Strata Smooved. Ahhhh.

The Most Powerful Colors in the World by COLOURlovers When we released our report on the colors of the social web, based on data analyzed by our Twitter theme tool, we were surprised that blue was such a dominant color in people's profile designs. Was Twitter's default color influencing their design decisions? Or is blue really THE most popular and dominant color online? [click to view in full size] Turns out the blue-berry doesn't fall far from the bush. While the initial reasoning for the colors chosen may be trivial, the impact that these dominant players now have in the web world will surely influence the smaller startups that want to share in the positive color associations created by their bigger siblings... Would A Corporation By Any Other Color, Still Profit As Well? Color is an important part of any brand, but along with the actual name of a company... And almost 10 years ago, Wired Magazine looked at the Colors of the corporate America... Companies spend millions trying to differentiate from others. Uh-oh! The Next Big Color Trend

Forums - Illustration - How I did the vector faces. Ok, I’ve had a number of people sitemail me now asking me to tell them how I did the vector illustrations of the faces on the CD Cover in the Designer Spotlight section so I'll spill it all here in the Vector Illustration Forum . Before I start, I need to answer a couple of FAQs: No, I didn’t use some new Illustrator filter that does it for you, and; Yes, it took some time and patience (just like it would for anything you want to get right ). Now, down to the grit! Firstly (and I know some of this is more design process than illustration technique, but it’s important and saves time in the long-run), I sketched out the composition first so that knew what sort of photos I needed to be looking for. I found suitable images, placed them in Illustrator, roughly masked them and arranged them where I wanted them. Once I had it sorted in my head how it was going to sit together, I started on the illustration working my way from the background objects through to the foreground objects. - Chris
