Non-Aeron Office Chair Picks? Good Questions Q - Okay, I may be in the minority here, but I find Herman Miller's Aeron Chair is the perfect example of form over function. Sure, it looks so corporate and minimalistic, but after months of awkwardness, leg-circulation cut-offs, and the annoying back support that feels like someone's elbow, I'm done. Seeing as you guys have covered tons of ergonomic chairs here before, I was wondering if you had any ideas on a better alternative?A - Overall, I have to say the Aeron isn't bad. But you definitely covered the bases on all its niggling annoyances. I'd also like to add that the arm adjustment drives me nuts as well. Knoll Life Chair ($499): While I haven't done an official review here on Unplggd, I've given the Knoll Life chair a demo and man was it the BOMB dot com. Herman Miller Mirra ($509): I also test drove the Herman Miller Mirra chair at my last hotel visit in Denver, CO. Steelcase Leap: This is the task chair that we use at the home offices of Unplggd.
Photoshop Shortcuts – The Fun Way In this post I’m going to focus on several Photoshop shortcuts that I tend to use more often than others. Sure I could sit here and spell out every single shortcut available, but why reinvent the wheel? Here is a list of 10 of my favorite and most used Photoshop shortcuts delivered to you via Mr. Stickman. Zoom with scroll Sure you can use the zoom tool straight off of the tool bar, but there is a much easier way. Individual font scaling If you’re looking to change the individual font size for a particular word or word-phrase within the text of your Photoshop document, simply highlight the text and hold Ctrl + Shift while using the > or < key to change the size of the font in 2px increments. 100% zoom Often times when I’m working on a project, I’ll zoom in particularly close to handle detail-oriented aspects of the design. Brush size I’m a fan of the brush tool, as most people are. Layer opacity The amount of transparency that a particular layer displays is know as it’s opacity. Super nudge

The Evolution Of Icon Design From 1981-2013 December 4, 2013 • By Joe Howard • In Design With the GUI having now been around for over 40 years, today we are taking a look back in time at the evolution of an integral feature – the icon. Since the early 70’s, when bitmapped screens were first developed with GUI’s, the humble icon has come a long way. The following is a collection of icon design in OS’s through history. This is by no means, a complete list of all the icons in every OS between 1983-2013, however I have hand-picked designs that have the most significance and popularity in icon design. 1981 – Xerox Star Surprisingly, the icons are actually pretty good. 1983 – Apple Lisa Once Apple had seen the Xerox Star, they decided to build their own GUI based system – The Lisa. 1984 Apple Macintosh 1.0 1985 Atari TOS Although mainly considered to be a gaming system, the Atari ST did still have a GUI which shared the desktop metaphor. 1985 Amiga Workbench 1.0 1985 Microsoft Windows 1.0x 1986 GEOS for Commodore 64 and Apple II 19989 Amiga OS
Herman Miller Unveils the SAYL Task Chair | Apartment Therapy Unplggd Previous image Next image Several months back at the annual International Contemporary Furniture Fair, Unplggd and the team from Herman Miller discussed the recent proliferation of affordable task seating from the realm of higher end furniture manufacturers; designs like the Herman Miller Setu have been redefining features and expectations at price points previously unheard of. Soon after, we were given some hints about something special in the works that would further redefine the market of affordable task seating: "…a fully featured task chair with range of features/adjustments and intended as an all-day work seat (unlike Setu) but at a remarkably accessible price (essentially half of a typical Aeron at retail), and with a very cool new aesthetic, new materials, etc." Upon first glance from a side view, the Herman Miller SAYL immediately evokes the impression of a suspension bridge.
