Teacher - Tech Use for Learning - Matrix
The Technology Integration Matrix (TIM) from the Florida Center for Instructional Technology offers both a way of categorising teacher use of technology to enhance learning, and also a plan for developing teacher learning and technology for learning integration. On the horizontal axis are the levels of technology integration in the curriculum, stated in teacher actions, with the increasing levels Entry, Adoption, Adaption, Infusion, and Transformation. On the vertical axis are the characteristics of the learning environment, this time stated in terms of what the students do: Active, Collaborative, Constructive, Authentic, Goal Directed."The TIM incorporates five interdependent characteristics of meaningful learning environments: active, constructive, goal directed (i.e., reflective), authentic, and collaborative (Jonassen, Howland, Moore, & Marra, 2003)." As an example of the matrix, the Active Infusion entry contains the following descriptor: ...and at the Active Authentic intersection:
Jason’s Five Quick Top Tips of OER
November 14th, 2011 by JISC Legal It’s greetings from the JISC / Higher Education Academy OER Phase 3 start-up meeting at Birmingham. I’m just about to do a short presentation along with Alex Dawson introducing the Phase 3 projects to their OER IPR Support. I’m keeping my contribution to-the-point in this session, and here’s the synopsis of my five quick-and-dirty top tips. Encourage authors/creators to think reuse, think openness – many people create works which they’d love to share. But few say so. As always, we’ll be around to help projects with their IPR and other legal issues, and we’re interested to hear about your experiences in dealing with these issues too. Cheers, and good luck, Jason of JISC Legal
Structuring Personal Learning Environments for Students: Useful Guidance from Wendy Drexler
In the project to educate our students to be digitally savvy and empower them to use the resources of the web to best pursue their own passions in learning as well as to research, evaluate, and use information in their coursework, we could stand to be more intentional in helping them shape their online environment than we have been thus far. Truth be told, I could stand to be more savvy in my own organizing of online learning and networking: I’ve been slow to use tools and develop skills for managing online resource, such as the use of vehicles like Symbaloo, Evernote, or Diigo, and I want to take inspiration from the 7th grade student in the video above to move forward in this way and learn and practive better these skills and with these tools. A PLE is the method students use to organize their self-directed online learning, including the tools they employ to gather information, conduct research, and present their findings. The 20 best apps for the iPad
This article has been superseded by a more recent update, published on March 14, 2012, on the eve of the launch of the third generation iPad. I previously said that the Apple iPad is only good for two things (I later added a third), but it's really good at those things. With that in mind, I've compiled a list of the 20 most useful apps for taking advantage of the iPad's strengths. Keep in mind that this list is skewed toward professionals and technophiles who are using the iPad on a daily basis, but I also realize that these folks tend to use tablets like the iPad for non-work stuff as well, like reading the news in the morning during breakfast or a little entertainment on the plane during a business flight. Photo gallery The best way to view this list is the photo gallery of screenshots of the 20 apps. 1. This is a 21st century newsreader based on your social graph. 2. 3. 4. Tablets are great for people who spend most of their days in meetings. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12. 14. 15. 16. 18.

Getting Started with Blended Learning Course Design
November 21, 2011 By: Mary Bart in Instructional Design, Online Education Blended learning is often described as the best of both worlds because it combines elements of face-to-face and online learning. For an instructor getting ready to teach his first blended course, the temptation may be to look at his traditional course syllabus, pick which classes can be moved online and then leave the rest of the syllabus as it has always been. “That’s one of the major pitfalls we see, but you really shouldn’t do that,” said Veronica Diaz, PhD associate director of the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative. In the recent online seminar Best Practices for Designing Successful Blended Courses, Diaz outlined a model for blended learning course design. The process of modularization begins with mapping a course that you want to design or redesign into a blended format to ensure alignment across course objectives, activities, technology used, feedback mechanisms, assessments, and other key components.
