yh2_Yiacouvakis Hamelin Architects Geometrie Noire, in Saint-Hyppolite, North of Montreal, Canada Saint-Hypolite is small town in the Laurentide, a scenic region used mostly as a weekend getaway for Montrealers. The house is built within a dense forest on a slight hill, bordering the opening of a small river. Through the trees, we perceive the body of the black building, divided into three blocks that get linked through glass passageways. These blocks are at split-levels from each other and are all in direct contact with the earth; three sections with their individual identity, offering intimacy from each other opening up towards the natural surroundings. The entry block, open on two levels, comprises the family’s teen quarters and family room. On the northern side of the house, a large sectioned wall, covered with bent corten steel, connects the blocks together while defining a series of covered outdoor spaces, always set against the light. Revolving Kitchen And Hanging Bed In Stunning 600 Sq. Foot Recycled Cabin Photo: Evelyn Muller. Although interior design events in Latin America are always full of huge museum rooms thought for impossible houses, it's good to see the trend of small spaces popping up in places like Buenos Aires and Sao Paulo. This 600 sq. foot recycled cabin by Brazilian designer Fabio Galeazzo presented at the last edition of Casa Cor Sao Paulo is another one of such spaces, and presents some very cool features. Asked to make use of an old cabin that was already at the city's Jockey Club --venue of the event--, Galeazzo decided to retrofit the place adding a new, visible bamboo structure both inside and outside the place (photo above). He then sought to create a space that had the simplicity of traditional cabins with some of the comforts of modern living. Gorgeous Grain: Wooden Bathtubs Really Go with the Flow Combining German hand-crafting expertise and curved ship hull construction methods, this patterned wooden tub shoots both to satisfy the eye and to soothe any aching back. Alegna specializes in exotic woods like wenge and mahogany that show off grain patterns with stark contrasts or work for lightweight-requiring (e.g. nautical) applications. Some of their tubs form monolithic built-in masses while others are free-standing and come with stone-filled surrounds. Beyond baths, their custom bathroom fixtures and furnishings include sinks and cabinets featuring the same attention to wood grain patterns and craft details, inward-flowing blocks of attractive woods.

Light Light's Sublime Levitating Lamps Posted by Ray | 30 Sep 2011 | Comments (9) Designer Angela Jansen of Design Academy Eindhoven recently collaborated with engineer Ger Jansen on a pair of skeuomorphic LED lamps that they're currently selling as Light Light. Their website knowingly notes that "It is uncommon for engineers to find good domestic applications for their technology... and it is likewise rare for designers of consumer objects to embrace cutting-edge technology wholeheartedly." Which, of course, is "perhaps what makes the cross-pollination of ideas between Angela Jansen and Ger Jansen so remarkable." The Light Light series creates an incredible visual conversation piece. It is like an optical illusion, yet one that is kind to the eyes and easy on the mind. Bombastic copy aside, the products speak for themselves. Garden House by David Guerra Email David Guerra is the Brazilian architect that redesigned the Garden House, a 1980′s house located in Brazil. This amazing house was constructed considering some important aspects like the interior/exterior integration which was planned to be bigger. To be suitable for the new owners the house was modernized adding new spaces that can be used in different ways. There was used a mix of styles including classics, ethnics, contemporaries and Brazilian references.

small is cool if you choose to live on your own as a young person (and i say this assuming that you don’t earn major bucks or perhaps you live in an expensive city – or both) you will probably be faced with the reality of renting a studio apartment. unless you’re an investment banker, or you won the lotto, or your granddad left you a sweet inner city pad the size of an ark that he bought back in 1950 for R500, or you’ve found some 3 bedroom palace with wooden floors and a working fireplace that’s being rented out for tuppence. if you’re one of those people, please don’t pity me. for i might be jumping on the studio flat bandwagon one of these days, and of course in lieu of that, the first thing i consider is HOW TO DECORATE. zach motl lives in a 178 ft² studio apartment in brooklyn. that’s 16m² folks… he’s an interior decorator, which explains why his flat looks the way it does. “the more stuff you put in a room, the bigger it seems” this NYC couple‘s apartment is only 200 ft² (18 m²!!!)

Haikou Tower by Henn Architekten HENN have won a competition to design a 450-metre tower for Haikou in China. The tower forms part of a masterplan for the new business district that will include ten towers of between 150 and 450 metres. The competition was won by Henn StudioB, the Berlin design and research studio of Henn Architekten.
