It will be useful for students preparing for Cambridge exam speaking activities. You will need this handout: Pics for describing Put the following picture on the board and hand out other copies to the class: Ask students what they can see in the picture. What’s in the background? What’s in the foreground? Go through the following vocabulary on the board: In the background/foreground we can see………….. On the left/right At the top/bottom He’s wearing…………….. He’s facing left/right/the camera He looks happy/sad/ etc. Prepositions: Next to/beside, above, below, in front of, behind. As, when or while ? - English Grammar Today – Cambridge Dictionary As, when and while are conjunctions. In some uses as, when and while can mean the same, but they can also have slightly different meanings. We use them to introduce subordinate clauses. We can use as, when and while to mean ‘during the time that’, to connect two events happening at the same time: Another coach-load of people arrived as we were leaving. We often use them with the past continuous to refer to background events: When the men were out working in the field, I helped with milking the cows, feeding the calves and the pigs. While he was working, he often listened to music. We can put clauses with as, when and while before or after the main clause. As she was leaving the court, a crowd of photographers gathered around her. Steven was very unhappy when things weren’t going well for him. Lucy came into the room while he was waiting. Drawing on Drawing Games Part Two – Picture Dictation Another recycled article of mine from Modern English Teacher magazine. As with the game Pictionary which is dealt with in Drawing on Drawing Games Part One, Picture Dictation is a very well known and popular game that I am going to look at some variations on and alternative uses for. I therefore hope that this article will be useful both for those who haven’t used this game before and for those who’d like to use it in different ways. I will also explain how to make sure that Picture Dictations work well every time you use them – and as you will see, there are many different times when you could! In the “traditional” version of a Picture Dictation, the teacher or a student takes a drawing or draws something themselves without anyone else being able to see. They then describe that drawing, and the person or people listening try to draw exactly what they hear being explained. Tips to make picture dictations work well Two difficult skills are involved in this game- drawing and describing.

Syntaxe : auxiliaire BE au prétérit (was/were) + Base Verbale (l'infinitif sans TO) + -ING Exemples : Were they playing football when you saw them yesterday? (sens: les enfants étaient-ils en train de jouer au football hier, au moment où vous les avez vus ?) Réponses : Yes, they were playing football when I saw them yesterday. = Yes, they were. No, they weren't playing football when I saw them yesterday. = No, they weren't.
How to Describe Shape, Form and Decoration – Finds Recording Guides Table of Contents There are two motivations behind your choice of words when describing shape, form and decoration: firstly consistency, and secondly full precision. Firstly you will want to use the consistent words that will allow your record to be retrieved. For example, there is a set of rectangular medieval buckle plates which have similar decoration, of a standing animal in profile with a curving tail ending in a tuft. This animal could be described as a quadruped, a lion, a beast, an animal, or zoomorphic. If we want to retrieve all of the records of this buckle plate type, we need it to be described consistently, using the same word(s) that we can build into our searches. On the other hand, if every example is described using exactly the same words, the small differences between individual examples will not be fully described. You can describe your object in two dimensions or in three, whichever seems the most appropriate. It is easy to use too many words when describing shapes.
