Carl Sagan Collection Since its creation in 1976, the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry (formerly known as CSICOP - the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal) has been honored by its association with founding member Carl Sagan, David Duncan Professor of Astronomy and Space Sciences and the Director of the Laboratory for Planetary Studies at Cornell University, Pulitzer Prize-winning author, Peabody-winning television producer, and recipient of the National Academy of Science’s highest honor, the Public Welfare Medal. Many of us first came to science and skepticism by way of Sagan’s PBS series, COSMOS, but his dedication to skeptical inquiry began long before we saw him on television. Early efforts to inform the public about science, pseudoscience, and the difference between them began in the late 1960s, and from them Sagan created one of the key principles of the skeptical movement: extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

san francisco FUN scheap SF Uptown Almanac Sam Harris San Francisco San Francisco i/sæn frənˈsɪskoʊ/, officially the City and County of San Francisco, is the cultural center and a leading financial hub of the San Francisco Bay Area and Northern California. San Francisco is a popular tourist destination,[18] known for its cool summers, fog, steep rolling hills, eclectic mix of architecture, and landmarks including the Golden Gate Bridge, cable cars, the former prison on Alcatraz Island, and its Chinatown district. Entrepreneurs sought to capitalize on the wealth generated by the Gold Rush. It was during this period San Francisco built some of its most important infrastructure. The Bay Bridge, under construction in 1935, took forty months to complete.
The Ocean Beach Bulletin SF civic center Besides Lt. Dangle, this year featured a slew of wonderful parodies of the recent Royal Wedding... ...with women running in some fabulously nutty dresses... ...and men in semi-formal wear... ...while being waved at by Queen Elizabeth from a new condo at the corner of Hayes and Franklin... ...and being accompanied by Tom Sweeney, the doorman from the Sir Francis Drake hotel, who is a species of local royalty. Another favorite theme was the Black Swan... ...who arrived in all genders. Indeed, tutus seemed to be the preferred fallback costumes for male-female couples... ...in all their variations... ...making one think that just about every girl wants to see her boyfriend in a tutu for some reason.
