cedharrsketchbook Discussion Page Article: Observations on the Waterbrush Waterbrushes started appearing in Japan several years ago and have recently become very popular around the world. In Tokyo, I've noticed there are more books on sketching which recommend the waterbrush now, including several books by Chihiro Tanaka, the man who is credited with inventing these. He used to empty the ink out of regular brush pens and fill them with water. Then he included photos of these modified tools in his books on watercolor sketching. Some of brush pen makers realized he was on to something big and started to produce these brush pens with translucent barrels and no ink, calling them waterbrushes (mizu-fude). I have been using either Pentel Aquash (the one at bottom of the photo) or Kuretake Phys waterbrushes (the three in the middle) almost to the exclusion of my regular brushes. One cool thing about waterbrushes is that the constant water supply will allow you to go from dark to light in a natural unbroken graduation. Update (August 2006): Update (October 2011):

El mundo dibujo a dibujo.: Sketchers Bahía de Cádiz Después de las presentaciones de rigor, estreno mi segundo post con otro segundo estreno: el del grupo de dibujantes que nuestra amiga Celia Burgos está formando en la bahía de Cádiz... A raíz de la visita que realizamos en Septiembre para el primer encuentro del proyecto "Cronistas de las Dos Orillas", se empezó a gestar un pequeño grupo de gente con interés en el dibujo, que ha quedado ya en un par de ocasiones para dibujar su ciudad. El pasado domingo fue su segunda cita, así que, algunos compañeros de Sevilla y Córdoba hicimos una pequeña incursión gaditana para acompañar y apoyar al grupo de Sketchers Bahía de Cádiz. Como suele ser habitual, el ambiente fue inmejorable y la acogida fue tan calurosa, que pudo compensar el frío que hacía... Ver con cuánta ilusión nos recibieron y nos enseñaron su ciudad, compensa con creces el viaje y los resfriados posteriores... Este grupo va a ser un "bastinazo"*!!

Mole skin Gel Pen sketches | Apkconcepts A little to much of a lack of updates in the last month – here are a series of sketches that i did today with the new found love of the bic gel pen – it works really well with a brush pen, the ink is quite loose and creates great wash. More, perhaps intellectually challenging stuff coming soon, (for myself at least!…….). Like this: Like Loading... Aquí me pilla, aquí dibujo Jerez y la provincia suman cada vez más adeptos al movimiento de los 'Urban Sketchers', una comunidad global de dibujantes urbanos profesionales o aficionados que plasman su entorno al natural y luego comparten sus creaciones en las redes. Saca de su mochila un cuaderno, despliega sobre su falda unos lápices de colores o quizás unas acuarelas. Juega con los materiales, prueba, esboza, experimenta mientras captura el paisaje cotidiano. Eso que miramos pero no vemos. O eso que en realidad vemos frente a lo que creemos ver. Decenas de dibujantes urbanos profesionales o amateurs se han unido en grupos de facebook y en blogs para renovar un concepto que se practica desde hace siglos, el dibujo al natural. “Dibujamos ‘in situ’, a cubierto o al aire libre, capturando directamente lo que observamos. En la actualidad ejerce como arquitecto técnico municipal en el Ayuntamiento de Grazalema, pero desde hace años dedica tiempo todos los días para cultivar su faceta de dibujante urbano.
