The American Society For Microbiology ISO50 - The Blog of Scott Hansen What's the big idea? Toward a pedagogy of idea power A key to understanding why School is what it is lies in recognizing a systematic tendency to deform ideas in specific ways in order to make them fit into a pedagogical framework. One of these deformations is described here as “disempowering ideas.” The insight leads to a new direction for innovation in education: re-empowering the disempowered ideas. Doing so is not easy: it needs a new epistemology with a focus on power as a property of ideas and a challenge to the School culture. On the positive side, the insight also leads to a new vision of what technology can offer education. Easy to Use CMS for Designers How to Pop Color Selectively Using Channel Mixers and Layer Mask By Jodi Friedman of MCP Actions: Photoshop Actions and Training There are literally dozens of ways to saturate your colors in Photoshop. For this post I am going to focus on one way to pop colors using “Channel Mixer” adjustment layers. To start with, locate an image that could benefit from more vibrant color, overall or in selected spots. Of course, you likely will want to correct exposure and white balance prior to working on color. Once you pull up the adjustment layer, you will adjust settings in the dialog box. For example, if you start with red, and put red at 150%, then you would split the difference to = 100%. Remember, all three outputs need to be treated the same. When you saturate color, make sure you are not losing details and that your colors are printable. With masking, you have 2 choices. For this tutorial, I am going explain, hiding the effect and painting it on where desired. So after getting your channel numbers set, you will invert your mask.
