I have had these Styrofoam ball forms for a while now, and thought I would do cute flowers all over them, and hang them in the twins' room. But sadly, the flower idea was pretty expensive. Especially because I wanted to do three of them. SO I thought this was a great, thrifty alternative! And I LOVE how they turned out! Here's what you'll need: Styrofoam ball forms Crepe paper streamers in whatever colors you choose LOTS of hot glue sticks and a glue gun a roll of tape and a measuring stick I measured my crepe paper strips at 24 inches, and ripped a BUNCH at that length, so I wouldn't have to keep stopping, to rip more Once that was done... and my glue gun was nice and hot, I started in on my flower makin'! First I crumpled the strips up, to make them softer and more fabric looking... Easy-peezy!

Projects Other Projects I Have In Mind To Tackle: I want to make a machine that paints pictures - either a big paint plotter, or something that works as (some kind of) robotic analogue of the human arm. Wind turbine - I want to see if it can be done on next to no budget. Parabolic mirror array (or some kind of mirror suitable for solar experiments, including cooking) Rudder autopilot for the boat - I think I actually have all the parts for this; I've got microcontrollers, servo motors, an electronic compass module... Something that makes use of the glue lamination techniques I learned when I made the boat - maybe a rocking chair, maybe a sledge... A MAME arcade cabinet Something that makes use of wooden gears Some kind of musical automaton - maybe an automatic xylophone A Backpack Tubulum - that is, a musical instrument as used by the Blue Man Group - one of these: An underwater webcam, or maybe a remote-controlled underwater vehicle, with a camera built in. untitled mad in crafts: Dollar Store Plastic Animal Bookends First of all, thank you so much to all of you who voted on the first round of So You Think You’re Crafty. Weren’t the projects fantastic? I have my work cut out for me in this competition! My animal bookends didn’t quite take first place, but I was ecstatic to see how many people liked my project the best. Since I wasn’t the first week’s winner, it means that I get to share the tutorial for my project here for you! To make plastic animal bookends, you will need: dollar store plastic animals sharp scissors strong craft glue acrylic photo frames spray paint (optional) I was so excited to get started on this project, that I didn’t take a before picture of the plastic toys. To bisect the toys, I just pierced the animal in the midsection (this is beginning to sound like a biology lab) with my scissors, and cut all the way around. Once the toy was halved, I applied a generous layer of glue to the cut edge and stuck the toy onto the frame. Once the animal halves were in place, I left them to dry.
