Oven Roasted Potatoes When I heard this month’s Kitchen Bootcamp Challenge was potatoes, I was pumped. Originally, I had great plans for the sweet potatoes still in my basement from last fall, but after researching and chatting with the hubby, I decided to go with Yukon Gold potatoes instead. My husband isn’t a huge fan of sweet potatoes and I wanted to make something he would enjoy too, so that’s how I settled on this oven roasted potato recipe. Yukon Golds are our favorite potato to grow in the garden and they absolutely melt in your mouth when freshly dug from the garden. But oddly enough, I’ve never actually roasted them in the oven. Of course, I’ve added them to a roast with carrots and onions and celery, you know the usual, but never on their own.

This is a really simple recipe; it just takes a little planning for thawing the dough. It will take 2-3 hours for the bread loaf to thaw to room temperature or 1-2 hours for the rolls to thaw to room temperature. Death By Oreo Cupcakes They are probably the best Oreo cakes I have ever tried. A lot of cake's that I have experimented with before are like a vanilla cake with bits of Oreo in them, which didn't really give them enough Oreo flavor. But these were a lot better. I used a dark chocolate fudge cake mix instead of just a regular chocolate cake mix, which went really well with the cookies and gave the cakes just a little more flavor.

(Photo by Dan Barton) What started out as a labor of love when her son asked her to bake a few loaves of a certain kind of bread, has turned into Challah on the Hudson, a local name gaining some fame in Kingston’s foodie-verse. Two years or so ago, Uptown mom Rhona Schiffres, who’s resumed a 20-year career in sales, found herself between jobs. As she was used to being busy and now had the free time to do some baking, the request for challah by her son Marc, a Kingston High grad now a sophomore at the Rochester Institute of Technology, fell on willing ears. (Marc and Rhona used to bake loaves together when Marc was little and the two still collaborate whenever possible.)

Foodbuzz 24, 24, 24: Chinese Buffet at Home It is no secret that I have an obsession with Chinese cuisine. The place that started it all was a local Chinese buffet here in Michigan. After frequent visits to the buffet over the years, I finally decided to take a stab at cooking my own Chinese dishes at home. The majority of the dishes were delicious and I began cooking different Chinese meals every week, but I had always wanted more variety just like the buffet. I had always wondered, “what if I could create a Chinese buffet at home?”

springy, fluffy marshmallows The first time I made marshmallows, well, I don’t think saying “it was a mess” adequately describes it. Oh, the marshmallows were successful; they even looked and tasted like marshmallows, but yours truly? I ended up in a tangled web of marshmallow strings. It all went south when I couldn’t resist the urge to scrape down the paddle and bowl (anyone else an obsessive bowl scraper? I cringe when things go to waste). The paddle was gunked to the bowl and the scraper was glued to the paddle and then — and it is my duty to implore you not to do this at home — you think, “well, I’ll just wipe off the paddle with my index finger” and then your index finger gets knit to the scraper and then you think “well, let me use my other finger to wipe this one off” and all of a sudden, you’ve got strands of marshmallow strung from each finger to the bowl, the mixer, the paddle, the scraper, each corner of the pan, your shirt, the floor and then your husband comes home just as you’re pleading “help!
