7 Kundalini Yoga Postures to Clear the Chakras “Men of great knowledge actually found out about the chakras – their workings, their petals, their sounds, their infinity, their co-relationship, their powers. They found that the life of a human is totally based on these chakras. They developed into a whole science. This total science gave birth to Kundalini Yoga. That is how Kundalini Yoga was born.” – Yogi Bhajan The human body is a complex system encompassing vast energy systems that are not immediately perceptible with our limited eyes. Gut Feelings Have you ever had a "gut feeling" about something that's later turned out to be true? Have you ever felt "open-hearted"? Ever encountered a situation that's made you "hot under the collar"? Or a person who is "a pain in the neck"? Believe it or not these seemingly illogical expressions have become part of the English language because they are unconscious recognitions of a deeper knowledge within all of us. A knowledge of a subtle energy system of Chakras and Channels and the way that they work to produce many of the odd sensations and intuitions that all of us experience from time to time. Knowledge of the Chakras is most comprehensively found in the ancient Eastern science of yoga. So what has this got to do with "gut feelings"? The third centre in our subtle system is called "nabhi" or "Manipur" chakra. Often that “Gut Feeling” is us being sensitive to the state of the Nabhi chakra. We're Obsessed With This Easy DIY Artwork Project (& You'll Be, Too!) UPDATE: The long weekend is the perfect time to start some new projects, so why not try this awesome (and so easy) artwork DIY? This story was originally published on July 25. If there are two things that have been commanding our attention lately, they're cool artwork and chevron prints. So, we were obviously pretty stoked to find a way to incorporate both — for cheap! — in an amazing DIY project for your apartment. Inspired by the work of artist Nancy Ramirez, two stellar Refinery29 interns collaborated on this easy-does-it way to spice up an empty wall. From the moment we spied this Nancy Ramirez painting on Pinterest, we were smitten. Assemble your paints and squeeze a quarter-size amount of each color onto your palette. To incorporate all of our colors, we used one at a time, rinsing our brush between each and blending until we covered the canvas. Once you've covered the canvas, let it dry for a few minutes. Et voilà! Photographed by Maia Schoenfelder

12 Great Reasons To Start Alternate Nostril Breathing “I rest well. I sleep peacefully, and I awaken with joy” Louise Hay Your nose is exceptionally clever. Simply by practising a few rounds of alternate nostril breathing (pranayama) for a few minutes each day, you can help restore imbalances in your brain – improve sleep – calm your emotional state – boost your thinking – calm your nervous system. How impressive is that! Another interesting fact about your nostrils, is that you don’t breathe through them equally all the time. Left nostril for calming – right nostril for energy: Your nose is directly linked to your brain and nervous system. Breathing in through your left nostril will access the right “feeling” hemisphere of your brain, and breathing in through your right nostril, will access the left “thinking” hemisphere of your brain. Yogic breathing, the perfect relaxation tool: I happen to believe alternate nostril breathing is up there, as one of the most therapeutic calming rituals. 12 benefits of alternate nostril breathing: Caution:
