För några år sedan arbetade jag med en mycket blandad grupp i engelska, och när jag skulle introducera dem till John Steinbecks ”The Pearl” ville jag inte slarva. Romanen är fantastisk – och den funkar förstås lika bra att jobba med på svenska. Den är kort och koncis med ett vackert språk och en mycket vacker, om än hemsk, berättelse. Ett genomgående tema i romanen är rikedomens förbannelse, lite förenklat. Eleverna fick arbeta utifrån modellen ”think-pair-share”, också den något jag kommit i kontakt med via Project Zero. Därefter diskuterades det vilka eventuella ”downsides” som skulle kunna komma med den här lotterivinsten. ”Perhaps I would become a snob” var ett förslag.
