Join (SQL) A programmer writes a JOIN statement to identify the records for joining. If the evaluated predicate is true, the combined record is then produced in the expected format, a record set or a temporary table. Relational databases are often normalized to eliminate duplication of information when objects may have one-to-many relationships. For example, a Department may be associated with many different Employees. Note: In the Employee table above, the employee "John" has not been assigned to any department yet. This is the SQL to create the aforementioned tables. CROSS JOIN returns the Cartesian product of rows from tables in the join. Example of an explicit cross join: SELECT *FROM employee CROSS JOIN department; Example of an implicit cross join: SELECT *FROM employee, department; The cross join does not apply any predicate to filter records from the joined table. In the SQL:2011 standard, cross joins are part of the optional F401, "Extended joined table", package. Sybase supports the syntax:

Why Writing Fluently Is Hard | Moments of Genius | Big Think - Iceweasel The human mind likes simplicity. It’s a complicated world, so we filter it into one cohesive and easy-to-digest worldview. This perspective is a rather unscientific one, however. When we observe the world we conclude that we have a pretty good idea of how it works – X will always cause Y – even though this is illusionary. Sometimes, simplicity comes at the expense of accuracy. As a philosophy student I noticed this early on. The 16th century French writer Michel de Montaigne is famous for penning a large collection of essays (or “attempts”). A few pieces of contemporary research confirm Montaigne’s observation. A possible reason for this is a psychological phenomenon called “processing fluency.” I think fluency explains why one hallmark of good writing is clarity. There are at least two reasons why. There are a few ways to avoid the curse of knowledge. The second reason is less obvious. In sum, good writing is easy to read but writing well is difficult to do. One last idea.
