'The Black Cat,' by Edgar Allan Poe We present the short story "The Black Cat," by Edgar Allen Poe. The story was originally adapted and recorded by the U.S. Department of State. Tomorrow I die. Tomorrow I die, and today I want to tell the world what happened and thus perhaps free my soul from the horrible weight which lies upon it. But listen! When I was a child, I had a natural goodness of soul which led me to love animals — all kinds of animals, but especially those animals we call pets, animals which have learned to live with men and share their homes with them. I was quite young when I married. The cat was a beautiful animal, of unusually large size, and entirely black. Our friendship lasted, in this manner, for several years, during which, however, my own character became greatly changed. As the days passed I became less loving in my manner; I became quick to anger; I forgot how to smile and laugh. One night I came home quite late from the inn, where I now spent more and more time drinking. Slowly the cat got well.

- A History of Michael Jackson in Videogames Earlier this year, a long standing internet rumour was confirmed: yes, Michael Jackson really did contribute music to Sonic The Hedgehog 3. For years, hardcore Sonic fans had poured over side-by-side comparisons of MJ songs and the game’s music. But now we know that he definitely was asked to contribute, but then left the project (either because he was unhappy with the Sega Mega Drive’s sound chip, or because the child abuse allegations against him). But that was far from MJ’s only flirtation with videogames. A sophisticated first novel introduces readers to death row Listen Story audio Aug 1, 2013 37min 9sec Elizabeth L. Barack Obama: 'We are and always will be a nation of immigrants' | US news Barack Obama used a heartfelt televised address to the nation on Thursday to explain his decision to enact sweeping immigration reforms that will shield from deportation almost five million people currently living in the country illegally. In an emotional broadcast from the White House, the president unveiled controversial executive action that will make millions of undocumented migrants eligible to live and work in what Obama described as “a nation of immigrants”. He urged America to show compassion to newcomers who entered the country illegally but have worked hard and put down roots yet still “see little option but to remain in the shadows or risk their families being torn apart”. “Are we a nation that tolerates the hypocrisy of a system where workers who pick our fruit and make our beds never have a chance to get right with the law?” “We’re considering a variety of actions. Obama added: “Mass amnesty would be unfair. “We were strangers once, too,” he said.
Payless fools social media influencers with a fake luxury store (by Amy Lieu, Fox News) – Payless, the affordably priced shoe company, revealed an advertising campaign Wednesday (Nov. 28) that attempted to show the quality of its shoes by fooling fashion-savvy influencers at a fake posh store in Los Angeles. The company took over a former Armani store and renamed it “Palessi.” They created a sleek website and an Instagram account. Unbeknownst to the partygoers, the brightly lit store was stocked with $19.99 pumps and $39.99 boots, AdWeek reported. “They’re elegant, sophisticated,” one partygoer said. [About 80 influencers attended over two nights, according to Payless. When it was revealed that the shoes were actually Payless shoes, partygoers were shocked. “Are you serious?! …[Payless said the social experiment was meant to remind shoppers that Payless’ affordable shoes are fashionable too.] “The campaign plays off of the enormous discrepancy and aims to remind consumers we are still a relevant place to shop for affordable fashion,” Couch said. 1. 2.
