Nina Simone - Feeling Good Your Left Foot Your Left FootBy Steve AnismanOriginally published in Modern Drummer Magazine April, 1999 Page 120-121, "Basics" Section Drummers often think of their left foot merely as a large paperweight whose sole purpose is to hold the hi hat cymbals together. Hi-Hat Sounds There are four fundamental sounds you can make using only the left foot: the "chick"; the "splash"; the "crash"; and the "sizzle." To perform the "splash," simply push down quickly on the toeplate with the ball of your foot, and as soon as the cymbals make contact, remove your foot from the toeplate so the cymbals touch gently and briefly. The "sizzle" is basically a cross between the click and the splash. The final technique is the "crash," a variation on the splash. These four sounds make up most of the sounds available with just a foot and a hi-hat. Basic Techniques Now let's look at some of the ways you can use your left foot to accompany and interact with the music you're making on the rest of the drumset.
Les potagers urbains Mapping the financial sector in Kenya | MIX Kenya has been among the most frequently-cited countries in discussions of financial inclusion, especially surrounding the rise of mobile money. Given this rapid change, what types of financial services does someone in Kenya have access to today? Is there equal access throughout the country or is it concentrated or missing in certain areas? The Kenya Map of Financial Inclusion (Fig. 1) pulls together detailed location data from the main providers in the market to help zoom in from a broad look of the country to a more granular view of the local landscape. Figure 1: Map of financial sector in Kenya The Kenya map (one in a series including Nigeria, South Africa and Rwanda) links together several datasets, each of which can be accessed via the map or the Google Fusion Table database. Data on bank branches comes from surveys carried out by FSD Kenya and the Central Bank of Kenya as part of the FinAccess 2009 study. Unlocking these datasets reveals unique insight.

accueil | Indicateurs de développement durable WFP And SADC In Historic Alliance To Fight Hunger In Southern Africa The UN World Food Programme (WFP) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) signed a landmark agreement in Botswana on 25 May 2012 to work together to fight food insecurity in the 15 member countries of the SADC region of southern Africa. JOHANNESBURG – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) signed a landmark agreement yesterday to work together to improve food and nutrition security in southern Africa. While most of SADC’s 15 member countries are experiencing significant economic growth, the region is suffering high levels of child under-nutrition, a devastating HIV/AIDS epidemic, and deep vulnerability to food and nutrition insecurity that is compounded by climactic and market shocks. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in Gaborone, Botswana, yesterday by WFP Deputy Executive Director for Hunger Solutions Sheila Sisulu and SADC Executive Secretary Dr. Augusto Tomaz Salomão.
