The Power of PechaKucha PechaKucha has become quite a popular presentation format, perhaps coming in just under TED’s level of infamy. Like TED, there are a number of “PechaKucha Nights” popping up in cities and at universities around the world. It has enjoyed this rise in status for good reason: people like the brevity, the visual appeal, and the informality. PechaKuchas are typically 6 minute 40 second presentations consisting of 20 slides (or images) displayed for 20 seconds each. PechaKucha makes a great presentation tool for the English language classroom. 1. 30-minute group presentations are great in theory: students can share a lot of information and display in-depth research on important topics. The short time of PechaKuchas has a number of benefits. The typical PechaKucha is a 20×20 6:40 presentation. 2. PechaKuchas appeal to audiences because they are extremely visual. 4. 5. PechaKuchas do not sacrifice skills for time. 6. As I mentioned above, PechaKuchas can be modified. Like this: Like Loading...

Fractions by The Math Learning Center How To Use Fractions Working with Fraction Bars and Circles More Toolbar Items Overview Fractions lets students use a bar or circle to represent, compare, and perform operations with fractions with denominators from 1 to 100. In that lesson idea, students develop a…sentence that the want people to say about them forty or fifty years in the future. I do it every year and it’s always very engaging and helpful. Today, I learned about a similar idea that I think would be an excellent complement to the One-Sentence lesson. It’s called “Your One Word.” The idea is that you choose one word that can sort of be your lodestone in life. That’s the only story, I think, that I’d share with the students as part of this lesson (the other stories are more marketing-related). One thing that makes the general idea even better is that the video provides a three-step process to develop your word, and I think a teacher can pretty much take that process and use it right in a classroom.
