WordPress introduces new HTML5 sandbox theme, calls out to CSS artists By now, I hope you've felt the early rumblings of an HTML5 revolution. It's still early days, however; most HTML5 sites are tests, or niche Web apps that only a small fraction of surfers will use. What HTML5 really needs is a huge, pipe-hitting champion; a website that grabs HTML5 by the gonads and slams it down front and center. The Blogging Software Dilemma This site is beginning to grow and grow, and forward compatibility has lately been in my mind more. Several days ago this site passed twenty thousand unique visitors, and more than seventy thousand hits, since late August. I recently converted everything (except the photolog) to XHTML 1.1, which was nice, but it’s not the markup I’m worried about. My logging software hasn’t been updated for months, and the main developer has disappeared, and I can only hope that he’s okay. What to do? Well, Textpattern looks like everything I could ever want, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to be licensed under something politically I could agree with.
French Study: Music Streaming More Popular Than Downloading « Evolver.fm New evidence supports our sneaking suspicion that people are streaming more music than they’re downloading, as an increasing number of start-ups and established players realize the promise of music in “the cloud,” streaming it to smartphones, computers, televisions, stereos, cars, and eventually, we assume, our espresso machine. A French study published on Tuesday found that for the first time in history, the French are streaming more music than they are downloading. (See the original article or PDF in French, or this somewhat clumsy babelfish translation.) What about in the States? A 2009 NPD Group study found that teens were streaming to more music and downloading less – and of course, teens eventually grow up and get replaced by more teens, so this pattern of streaming increasing and downloading decreasing that has emerged in France appears to be mirrored here, and probably in other countries as well.
Happy Anniversary WordPress! If you are WordPress fans, you must know the history of your favorite CMS software, its creation, its evolution, its core members. LimeWire Resurrected. The pirates have brought LimeWire back to life. What a short-lived victory that was. They took over the damaged vessel, did some upgrades, and let it set sail on the open seas, err, BitTorrent servers.
Incorporating the Settings API in WordPress Themes » cb.blog The inter-tubes are awash in tutorials for how to add Theme Options to WordPress Themes - so why write another? Primarily, because most such tutorials are several years old, don't implement current best-practices, and were written without any awareness of the WordPress Settings API. While others such as Otto and Ozh have done yeomen's work in explaining how to implement the Settings API, I have not yet come across anything that really put everything together, and explained the process and implementation from beginning to end, in a way that even the less-experienced Theme developers (like me) could easily understand. This tutorial will attempt to fill that gap, by providing examples of current (as of the pending release of WordPress 3.1) best-practice implementation, not merely of the Settings API, but of Theme Options implementation as a whole, including: Throughout this tutorial, I will be using code from my Oenology Theme for implementation examples. Assumptions: Best Practices
The day Steve Jobs dissed me in a keynote In May 2003, Apple invited me to their headquarters to discuss getting CD Baby's catalog into the iTunes Music Store. iTunes had just launched two weeks before, with only some music from the major labels. Many of us in the music biz were not sure this idea was going to work. Especially those who had seen companies like eMusic do this exact same model for years without big success. 10+ Awesome Up To Date Wordpress Plugins to Build Contact Forms Fast If you have a contact page on your website or blog, it is almost standard to now have a contact form embedded somewhere within it.
