Harry Potter inspired Jewelry I solemnly swear by TesoroJewelry Light Projection Turns Plain Room into Geometric Maze - My Modern Metropolis - StumbleUpon If you ever wanted to turn one of your plain, all-white rooms into a crazy, awesome experience, just ask Bahar Yurukoglu. The artist has created an interesting installation where he puts simple, polygonal shapes made of acrylic glass tiles on walls and ceilings. He then hits those objects with projected rays of light. This, in effect, covers the room in stunning colors and geometric 3-D shapes. Bahar Yurukoglu's website via [The Creators Project], [FastCo Design]
How to Make Clothing Buttons from Shrink Plastic… This tutorial is an old one of mine that’s too good not to share again. Since posting the first time, I’ve had lots of questions about these buttons which will hopefully be answered in this revised post. Equipment Some handy notes: 1. The buttons. single hole, hole punch (like this one here). 2. 3. Okay.. lets get started! Tracing tips: You can use either coloured pencils or permanent pens. Words must be writted backwards in order to be readable. Shrinking the buttons: To shrink the buttons, you can use an oven or a heat gun (the kind used for embellishing). After the buttons have twisted and twirled, and are LYING FLAT, it’s time to take them out. Note: If the skrinking is taking too long, you may need to turn your oven up. Here’s a short little stop-motion to make sure you’ve got the gist of how easy this is! Shrink Paper {here} Circle Punch {here} Hole punch {here} Pens {here} Update: I’ve made a video to show how to shrink the buttons using a craft embellishment heat gun. Kimanh
Button Statment Rings « It’s September and that means it’s time to add another statement piece to your collection…. obviously! I heart almost every piece Nicole Richie designs for House Of Harlow 1960, especially her oversized rings. As amazing as these rings are they’re also an easy DIY. My friend Jenni, from I Spy DIY, did a project a few months back where she transformed buttons into earrings. Buttons, buttons everywhere!! Materials: Buttons, Clippers, Glue, Rings With Flat Tops (available at the jewelry supply store) Use your clippers to remove the shank from the back of the button. Once you’ve made the back of the button flat, use an ample amount of glue to secure the ring to the back of the button. Here’s another hint: If you can’t find a flat ring base, Ring Pops are a fun alternative. Once the base has dried, glue on the button. I now thing I have enough new statement rings to get me through the month.
An Abandoned Country Estate in Yonkers & Scouting NY - StumbleUpon Note: I DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT ALDER MANOR AND WEDDINGS!! I’ve tried to figure it out, but the person in charge of weddings has never called me back, and it remains a complete mystery. I receive emails daily complaining about a lack of response for weddings, and I just don’t understand the situation. Very sorry! It sits on a hill just outside of New York City, completely empty and, for years, decaying and nearly forgotten… This is Alder Manor, and it’s without question one of the most amazing places I’ve ever had the pleasure of scouting. After both he and his wife died, the mansion was traded between owners who had no use for it and eventually wound up abandoned. When you first enter, you find yourself in the enormous Main Hall, with the huge grand staircase off to one side. Reverse of the main hall. Which leads to the incredible library: Standing in the reverse corner, with a great stone fireplace and working chandeliers. A painting over the fireplace is still in excellent shape:
How To Mix Chalkboard Paint in Any Color We love using chalkboards as backdrops for displays and parties (like this one here!). So we were super excited to learn that you can create your own custom colors-and it's really easy! We first learned how from Martha Stewart whose tutorial you can read here. She recommends that you use latex paint, but we tried it out with acrylic paints with much success. Here's how you too can create your own chalkboard paint... Supplies: 1/2 cup acrylic paint (choose any color you like, or mix colors together to make the perfect shade!) 1. 2. Once your chalkboard has fully dried be sure to slate the surface before using it for the first time. Have fun creating any color combination you like!!
