
Infographic: United States of the Environment In the spirit of two popular infographics that map out the best and worst of all 50 U.S. states — the United States of Awesome and the United States of Shame — MNN decided to see how each state shines or suffers in regard to environmental and public health. Our "United States of the Environment" maps depict each state's No. 1 and No. 50 ranking for issues such as conservation, agriculture, energy efficiency, disease prevalence, pollution, natural resource availability and education, among others. When Clients' Dumbest Requests Become Art Ah, the relationship between creative professional and client. A give and take ballet as old as commerce. Caricatures abound on both sides. Irish creative team Mark Shanley and Paddy Treacy recently orchestrated a lemonade-making sort of project that turns clients’ less informed requests into art. According to Treacy, all the comments you see are real. And, not for nothing, Treacy also acknowledges that clients are hardly alone in being occasionally intolerable. Animation on a Bike Here’s a wonderful zoetrope animation using paper discs mounted on bicycle wheels by Katy Beveridge as part of her 3rd year dissertation project at CSM in London. Beveridge mentions being partially influenced by the technique of Tim Wheatley who has also explored the ideas of bicycle-wheel animation. See many more zoetrope videos previously on Colossal. In 2010 he took a clever hand built “light suit” to the massive festival in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert and captured the plethora of beautiful, colorful revelers in engaging detail.
