recycle project no. 14 - drawer organizer
I saved a couple of cereal boxes a while back and today I used them to make a drawer organizer. Everything in the drawers of a small Ikea drawer unit I have slide back and forth and I was getting tired of that. I love the neutral colors of Muji stationery supplies and that was a tiny inspiration too. The first thing I made was a basic box that is as wide as the inside of the drawer. The divider is made out of another piece of a cardboard and it covers the bottom of the box, which make the whole project very sturdy. I purposefully didn't want any part of the outer graphics to be visible. Notice that the back of the drawer has one of my magazine bowls. So, why did I disappear? Needless to say things have been busy around here.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: Repeat - Mason Jars
Yes, they are everywhere. Yes, I have posted on them before. And yes, I am still smitten! How could I not be? They are affordable. I should note...I'm a little obsessed with how the matte black came out and have more outside drying as I type this. Then, in my Pinterest crazed obsession, I found this little DIY image. This led me to trying my own version with a milk jar, fabric marker and glue gun.... She's not perfect, but I love that about her. For all you DIYers with questions on how to or the materials used for this project...I did a follow up post that can be found here.
upholstery basics: upholstered walls, part 1
When we gathered here last time, we turned an uninspired coffee table into a boxed ottoman, and January brought us boxed cushion sewing. This month, I thought we’d think inside the box for a change and tackle one of the biggest upholstery projects to cross my path: upholstered walls! About a month ago, I moved into a house that my hubby and I have been renovating for over a year. Read the full how-to after the jump . . . The Makings of a Closet
Inch by inch, I’m making progress in my office. Since I’m painting all of the walls, I had to do some rearranging of furniture. As I mentioned in another post, this little nook in my entryway is going to become a prop closet of sorts. Instead of installing wall mounted shelves, I’m using two metal shelves that I previously used in the gift shoppe for holding merchandise. Anyway, the shelves fit perfectly in this area, so that’s will they shall stay. I’ve been on the hunt for doors for this nook to keep my mess somewhat hidden. My initial idea was to do a sliding barn door. The system looks so cool and the quality seems great. I still haven’t made a final decision, but these look like a good contender. At this point, I’m so happy to be making progress and seeing this space come back to life. Do you have a sliding barn door at your house?
Centsational Girl & Blog Archive & DIY Craft: Yarn Wrapped Frames
Whenever I pass the knitting section in the craft or specialty fabric stores and spy all of the beautiful yarns, I wish that I had the skill to knit so I could put those gorgeous threads to good use. Unfortunately, I don’t knit at all. Then I had an idea to use yarn in a decorative way, by wrapping it around some homemade frames and creating some original wall mirrors for a blank wall space. With this project, I started out with every intention of making two wall mirrors, but in the end, I left one frame as is, just because I like it better that way. We had a very blank wall between two windows for the longest time and I finally decided to add some decor. These days, I’m very focused on adding more texture to my home in creative ways. Here’s the bouclé version, more like a square wreath than a frame. And the cotton yarn version that I turned into a mirror: You can wrap just about anything with yarn to make a similar version, whether it’s an existing frame or a foam wreath.
Home Cinema furniture you cannot buy anywhere (HCfycba)
Introduction: Space is tight in a small condo, so I wanted some slick and small TV-furniture to go with my home cinema stuff. There are some options readily available, but they are either rather expensiv or just don't perfectly fit my needs. So I thought about how I want my set up to look like and went to work. My main focus was to make the "furniture" slim so that it doesn't extend into the living room so much (it gives the room a larger appearance) and it shouldn't look like a piece of "off the shelf" furniture. Picture 1: The complete set up for watching TV. Picture 2: The complete set up from the left side, just to give an impression of how slim it got. Picture 3: The set up for watching movies. Picture 4: The lower shelf units hold all my home cinema electronics as well as my digital cable box, external hard drive and audio. Picture 5: I integrated a main switch for all my electronics into the lower shelf. Picture 6 and 7: This is the upper shelf.
