The First Zombie Proof House Somehow, ritual drunk-conversation concerning team captains for the apocalypse has become a major part of the lives of 20-somethings. Having been matured in the Grandaddy-crowned masterpiece film (put “A.M. 180” on and forget that you have a job) 28 Days Later and the best-selling Zombie Survival Guide, we’re all a little too ready to deal with the 2012 zombie apocalypse of our dreams. “The Safe House,” designed by KWK Promes, starts to get eerily close to something I could work with, if say 200 bludgeoned members of the undead army came over to eat their way into borrowing some sugar. “The most essential item for our clients was acquiring the feeling of maximum security,” begins the designers’ website in the summary of the structure. Who wouldn’t feel safe in a concrete rectangle that folds in upon itself to become completely sealed? Even the windows are covered with a slab of concrete when the structure is on nap time.

The Munchies, Marijuana and Happiness Why does smoking marijuana produce the munchies? What does this peculiar response tell us about our brain ? It turns out, quite a lot; particularly with regard to our ability to experience happiness and joy and to avoid obesity and depression . The craving for food while smoking is likely due to the stimulation of marijuana receptors in the feeding centers of our brain. The munchies drew the attention of neuroscientists who then conducted a series of clinical trials using a novel drug, called rimonabant, that potently block the brain's marijuana receptors. Their hope was that blocking the action of the brain's marijuana neurotransmitter system in the feeding center would produce an "anti-munchies" effect, thereby reducing food consumption and providing help to overweight patients. I was recently honored by an invitation to give a TED talk on this topic area. Unfortunately, some major side effects were reported after long term treatment with the drug.

Best Street Art of 2011 December 27, 2011 | 72 Comments » | Topics: Art, Pics Hot Stories From Around The Web Other Awesome Stories Winter Walk Text is taken from Music K-8 magazine. John tells us that this is the first Celtic style piece he's ever written. It was inspired by his wife, Janet, who loves to take walks in the snow. It is a beautiful piece, unison throughout, and is repetitive enough for your students to pick up quickly. We used many instruments to create the texture for "Winter Walk" and highly recommend the use of the recording with your students. Obviously, any winter stage set or props will enhance the impact of this song. this isn't happiness™
